Zutara Week 2026 Day 1: Dreams
I had two ideas for this prompt so naturally had to do the most!
I really love the idea of Zuko and Katara stealing away to rest on Appa whenever they get the chance, so I made the little gif <3
For the second piece, I wanted to show that even in their dreams they can’t help but think of the other because they’re lovesick fools…
Happy Zutara Week everyone! @zutaraweek
Zutara Week 2026
✨️DAY 7 - TIME✨️
Katara loses track of time while working late into the night~ Luckily, Zuko's steaming cup of tea and gentle touch manage to remind her to take a break~ And as her tension melts away and their eyes lock, Time stands still✨️🥹❤️✨️
And with this, here is my final entry for this year’s Zutara Week✨️🥹✨️ What a truly blissful week it's been!✨️🥰🥰🥰✨️
Beyond creating art myself, I absolutely loved seeing all the entries from my fellow Zutarians✨️🥹✨️ Everyone's interpretations of the prompts were just marvelous!✨️🤩🤩🤩✨️
I’m so deeply grateful to everyone who liked, commented, and shared my work~ Thank you soo much~ Your support truly kept me motivated to keep going✨️🥹❤️✨️ Can’t wait to participate again in next year’s Zutara Week!✨🥰🥰🥰
@zutaraweek
It's very telling that in order to explain why Zutara would be impossible in-universe it's most often immutable characteristics that are used as reasons, things that are outside of the characters' control.
That "they can't be together" because of where each of them are from and who their families are and the politics of the world they were born into, not because of their chemistry and personal compatibility.
As though these reasons have ever been hindrances on the plot of a fictional romance. If anything, these have been core themes of the romantic storytelling genre since the beginning of time.
Two lovers, forbidden from one another, a war divides their people, but they find a way to be together. Sound familiar?
These things do not cancel out the possibility of romance like it's a math equation. They build tension, dramatic irony, and facilitate the plot by creating a conflict that must be overcome.
When saying "Zuko and Katara can't be together because of [above reasons]" you're not making the argument you think you're making, you're describing the classic plot to a story of forbidden, star-crossed love.
Declaring that they are not allowed to be together due to immutable characteristics like where they come from and who their families are makes one sound like the authorities in a love story that pry the lovers apart, like the parents that forbid their children from seeing the one they love so the children are forced to sneak away and meet under the cover of night. You sound like the Montagues and Capulets.
It does nothing to dampen the appeal of Zutara, if anything it makes it burn harder, makes it feel even more tragic that they didn't end up together, the fact that they are perfect for each other but forbidden from being together due to things they cannot change. All it does is add fuel to the desire to rewrite the myth so that they can be together, which we have done thousands of times now and will continue to do thousands more.
Since it's Zutara Week, I really need to make a contribution. And, since "Love Like the Galaxy" is one of my favorite C-dramas, I figured I'd throw out the idea of Zutara having moments from that series.
Katara making handsewn armor for Zuko that is supposed to look like a turtle-duck feathers and shell, but it comes out looking like pig-chicken feathers (like when Niao Niao made Buyi "mandarin duck armor" that looked like chicken wings). Zuko says that if she says it's turtle-duck armor then it is turtle-duck armor and he will vehemently correct anyone who says otherwise.
A few mean rich girls in the capital try to hurt Katara by tripping her so she'll fall onto sherds of broken pottery, only for Zuko to catch her in his arms. He then later has the girls' wealthy and influential parents arrested and publicly shamed for "failing to raise their children correctly."
Katara also sabotages a garden bridge and gets Zuko to help her lure the mean girls onto it so that their combined weight makes them drop into the pond underneath. She also later has Sokka help her rig a booby trap that dumps tons of soot on the mean girls when they're in their nicest dresses.
Zuko hurrying back from saving an important government official from an assassination plot to help Katara stop the conspirators from blowing up a major farming village, only to find that she's already stopped the saboteurs herself.
Zuko clinging to the side of a cliff with one hand and holding Katara with the other. Katara tells him to let her go or they'll both die. He says he'll only let her go if he's dead.
Zuko rushing to help Katara when the fort she's at is under attack while he already has an arrow in his shoulder. Katara later pulls the arrow out herself and patches him up. Katara also later finds that Zuko kept the arrow tucked away in a little drawer.
Katara getting back at one particularly nasty noblewoman at a memorial ceremony by subtly fastening the woman's robe sash to one of the ornamental candle holders that falls over when she moves, tugging off the somber white mourning robe to reveal she was wearing a vivid red dress and fancy jewelry underneath (something that is a major insult to the deceased being memorialized). Someone also realizes how expensive the woman's jewelry is and it's discovered that she's been illegally minting counterfeit money to supplement her income.
Katara just unashamedly hitting one mean girl with an uppercut. Then, in order to make it look like self-defense, punches herself to get a black eye.
Also, Iroh acting like the emperor from "Love Like the Galaxy" and relentlessly shipping our favorite couple. Then hearing that they've eloped instead of coming back to the capital for a big ceremony and getting majorly annoyed to the point he refuses to acknowledge it. "If I wasn't there, then it doesn't count! They're not married until I get to see a proper wedding ceremony."

Day 6: COURT
@zutaraweek
THE RESULT!!
They're flirting in the middle of an important meeting! Don't they have any shame?
Forgot I made a new reference for Pyxis A WHILE AGO, I intended to post Pyxis AND Petal + Grubby together but I haven't gotten around to fixing Petal's ref 💔
I did that job once.
What are your pronouns and would you like to join my union
i love how this is always showing up on my dash entirely free of the context that the ood’s response to this question is ‘the beast shall rise from the pit and make war against god’
HE'S A SCHOLAR🔥👓
This was definitely influenced by @demaparbat-hp and their art of Zuko wearing glasses⤵️
BECAUSE LOOK AT HIM!!! HE IS BEAUTIFUL !!!
@zutaraweek day 6: courtING
inspired by delicate by @jasmine-tea-latte, that they wrote for Zutara Week 2022.
been keeping up with Zutara Week since my DeviantArt days, and i'm so glad to have time to do something for 2026, with my art much improved from previous submissions when i was a teenager....
i was reading and i got OBSESSED with this fic, it's the only thing that i've been doing all week long. and for some reason, while the fic has ATLA clothing, i was picturing Katara and the Earth Kingdom wearing Bridgerton inspired regency-era gowns, while i got obsessed with the idea of imagining Zuko and the fire nation wearing Hungarian military gala regalia, inspired by Count Adràssy specifically in the Romy Schneider's Sissi movies. i want to do so many more drawings of Zuko in Hungarian regalia... i just think it fits so much.
to my dearest gentle JasmineTeaLatte, your fanfic has brought me a great amount of joy, anger, kicking feet, and giggles. i'm truly entranced by your writing and your Bridgerton/Pride and Prejudice inspired plot. and i was absolutely thrilled by your inclusion of a quote from Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, one of my favorite movies. this fanfic has brought me back my love for Zutara, historical AUs, and romance. thank you greatly for this fanfic. hope you like my interpretation of it :)
bonus: my own zutara playlist.
I think it's hilarious that that ka shipper running that "Katara Week" on twitter and blocking zutara shippers is like "no this is about Katara, NOT about ships," but one of the prompts is "Katara and the people who love her" and their reasons for blocking zutara shippers is alllll ship discourse started by kas trying to insist that something zutara shippers did was racist and zutara shippers ignoring them or calling them out on attempting to virtue signal and weaponize racism, sometimes against poc.
Like, if you want ka week, just call it that. This disingenuous behavior is what's got people calling it out, more than wanting anything to do with any event run by someone who behaves that way. What's worse is the attempt to weaponize a ship week against the fandom that created ship weeks. And these people want to tell us it's about Katara. Sure.
Yeah I got a blunt question for you. What's your deal over Zutara? You people can't just innocently enjoy it, no. You make a damned religion out of forcing it as something that it wasn't. Are you seriously listening to yourself when you write these posts? You're not embarrassed? Because you SHOULD be.
Oh lookie here, hater of the day..
Bryke is that you? 🤭
First, you say ‘you people cant just innocently enjoy it…’
Then someone like you comes along and tries to crap on it the way you’re doing it now, on zutara week and MY birthday of all days, writing on my ask as if its some sort of a flex for you…
Why dont you leave us the hell alone because honestly, you’re the one embarrassing yourself at this point.
I dont care if you’re a multishipper, or a canon purist, or a k/a stans, but rabid antis like you make us abhor canon even more.
If you think us loving zutara has become our religion, YOU HATING ZUTARA has become yours.
Enjoy your lame ass canon. 👋
