Adhering to strict Covid19 protocols, the 225th Thrissur Pooram was kick-started at the Vadakkunnathan Temple on Thursday (April 22, 2021) after the mighty tusker, Ernakulam Sivakumar opened the southern gate of the temple, carrying the idol of Neythalakkavau Bhagavathi to mark the beginning of Pooram festival
Because of the surge in Covid19 cases, the state government had decided to organize the Pooram without the participation of people and allowing only the temple rituals. The two-century-old Thrissur Pooram is a vibrant festival of spectacular possession of caparisoned elephants, rhythmic percussion music, and an enthralling display of fireworks which is very close to the hearts of every Keralites.
