Frustratingly perhaps in this book Mary Anning barely seems to age. I guess in some way that does make some sense, Anning died of breast cancer aged 47. Again that said Mary Anning is unbelievably cute in the illustrations. I just love the whole look I know it's the period she lived but I just think the outfit is adorable. Her dog, Tray is also cute. Tray is apparently some kind of Spaniel according to a blog post (discussion between two writers) on maryanningrocks.com. The bright is counter almost to what her life was, a struggle and full of dirt while looking for her discoveries. But I like the dichotomy. The end pages are of course fossils that are well-sized and the white on a green background is effective. I just like the art okay. I liked the story and the message as always but the cute bright art was what I needed to see (the LPBD I read before this was Turing's it is as one would expect dark). Anning does have one of those stories of men taking credit for a woman's work... again. No credit was given for her work or discoveries until after her death. But overall its tone is an uplifting one of discovery, passion for her work and knowledge that recognition comes to those who deserve it in time.

Avec en poche un diplôme en communication visuelle de la Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design de Genève, Popy se lance avec panache dans le monde merveilleux de l'illustration en 2016! Elle compte aujourd'hui principalement des collaborations avec la presse, les éditions jeunesses et des clients tel que Memo Paris ou Absorba. Elle anime également des ateliers au sein du collectif Figure Libre. Popy propose des créations légères, dynamiques et poétiques dans lesquelles les personnages s'enlacent et se prélassent dans un joyeux bordel. On en redemande! ____

After obtaining her degree in visual communication at the Geneva School of Art and Design, Popy started working as an illustrator for the press, publishers of children's books and clients such as Memo Paris or Absorba.  She also runs workshops for the collective "Figure Libre". Popy's work is light as the wind, and dynamic like... like a bike! Her sharply drawn characters all seem delighted to take part in the endless dance she poetically depicts.
