sure, Nero holds an inherent softness, and you can really see it in how he behaves around people he likes or admires, or maybe base it on the fact that he's "only" a quarter demon. But he's still a demon. Have you seen his moveset? In DMC4, he literally rips Chimera Seeds apart with his bare hands, which is the kind of savagery even Dante and Vergil don't do.
I know that they made Nero more brutal because he was just too 'twink-y-looking' and had to balance that out, but I'd like to argue that these contrasts only make Nero even more appealing as a character.
I didn't think whether or not Dante is kind of an asshole would ever be considered a hot take. Yeah, he's kind of a dick and you see it in canon all the time?
I will preface this by saying that I'm not a particularly analytical person. I just experienced this when I played DMC4 for the first time sometime in 2010 iirc, and my brain chemistry was forever altered.
I find their fighting choreography quite sexually charged, mostly because of where their bodies are connecting, and also because of the obvious exertion (more so in their second fight). I also think the cutscenes and pictures speak for themselves but because it is quite fast-paced, I broke it down moment by moment.
This is adapted from a presentation I made for my friends in the beginning of the year. We came together to do a presentation night and my entry was "You lot allowed me to speak freely about DMC, so this is your own doing".
Here's a pic of my DN emotional support beans and my teacher's pointer:
Anyway, the breakdown of their first fight is under the cut. This is a very long post:
Shortly after Dante appears in 4, the following happens:
Behold this act of international violence. What an odd way of establishing first contact. But it only gets better from here!
Do you see this? Who in their right mind charges in CROTCH first? Nero, clearly.
And then this happens:
Too fast? No worries, I got you!
THIS IS HOW NERO GRABBED DANTE. OK. ARE WE GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT?
He then proceeds to avoid Ebony by getting his leg over Dante's arm:
And when Dante then aims at him with Ivory, Nero stops it WITH HIS TEETH:
Even Dante is like wtf.
And then Nero proceeds to beat the living shit out of Dante:
In which Dante almost triggers, but he keeps it under control, just about.
And then, Nero throws him into the Sparda statue they wrecked, pinning him to it with Rebellion:
Now we all know stabbing Dante is just another Tuesday to him, so he shrugs it off like any half-demon would. They exchange quips, and Dante fucks off to do God knows what.
Their second fight takes place at The Order headquarters, in a bedroom. Dante holds back less in this fight, but ultimately it takes him little to no effort to pin Nero underneath him. And he does so by stepping on his Bringer while holding Rebellion to his throat.
What are they breathing for so heavily?? I swear there is, or were, so many fics with alternate suggestions on what went on in that bedroom.
Obviously, the eroticism of this is subjective. I also know I am biased because I ship them, and have shipped them from the moment Nero's boots connected with Dante's face (or arguably the moment Nero stared at Dante in awe when he turned around with blood on his face).
But at the same time... Look at this official art and tell me it isn't oddly sexually charged:

Dante fulfils his promise. But when Nero gets too big for his boots, he knows just how to put him in his place.
