Well, hello there. I’m here to discuss other pokeball pokemon revealed in the Charizard/Greninja trailer along with Low Quality photos I took myself.
Here we see a trio of starters from 5th and 6th gen. Chespin, Fennekin, and Greninja mean 6th gen gets full rep for starters. I’m not entirely what Chespin would do… Stand in place and shoot pin missile?
The 5th gen starters fortunately have signature moves at their first stage (except for maybe Tepig, who is missing from the trailer) so I imagine Snivy would use Leaf Tornado- a whirlwind of leaves would surround the pokemon and launch any enemies close enough high in the air?
Oshawott’s signature move is Shell Blade, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch that it might do something like maybe Piplup? Oshawott could run across the stage and do a single/multiple slashes at any enemy it meets?
And here we have the worst quality photo I have, beneath Youtube’s message is Swirlix, who is shown more clearly in a later scene, and a strange blob on the right. I’m pretty sure the previously mentioned blob is the Black and White’s beloved dog pokemon, Herdier. If it is Herdier, I could imagine the dog pokemon, I could imagine it “herding” items towards whoever released it. We had Munchlax that would eat items and Rosalina’s gravity move that pulls in items, so I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch unless someone has a clearer photo and can easily prove what pokemon it is, because I’m not too certain it really is herdier.
Swirlex, 6th gen’s cotton candy pokemon, is easier to confirm from watching the video as it appears twice, but what it does is a bit of a mystery. Swirlix has the unique ability Sweet Veil that prevents it and it’s teammates from falling asleep, but I’m not sure how that would work in SSB4 with the only confirmed sleep inducer being Bellossom (who is also in the video, she comes out of a pokeball just before the starter picture above). Maybe it’s X pokedex entry could give some insight, “To entangle its opponents in battle, it extrudes white threads as sweet and sticky as cotton candy,” so Swirlix might stick to players that get too close and slow them down?
In the top right we see Darkrai, the Pitch-Black Pokemon. The Bogeyman of the pokemon world has the signature move Dark Void that drags all enemies into a deep sleep. In addition, it has the ability Bad Dreams that induces passive damage to all sleeping pokemon. Darkrai could easily use Dark Void to put all other players to sleep and then stick around for a few seconds to give a little passive damage before vanishing. Other returning pokemon in this shot include Gardevoir, Snorlax, and Lugia.
Here in the middle we have one of the pokemon everyone thought would be a new playable character, Zoroark, and behind him we see the God of the Distortion World, Giratina.
Zoroark would most likely use it’s signature ability to transform into a random player and maybe do a few attacks before disappearing? Imagine Zoroark copying a character and then pulling off their Final Smash! That might be a bit of a stretch, but I’m sure no one would complain too loudly if it did happen.
I’m a bit of a loss for Giratina. It’s main attribute is transforming into it’s Origin Forme, that form it uses while in the Distortion World, and it’s signature move Shadow Force. Maybe Giratina would appear in it’s normal form, give a roar or something before slipping dimensions and then come flying out in it’s Origin Forme behind a random player and doing massive damage?
Other returning pokemon include Kyogre, the Lati twins, and Suicine.
The final two pokemon I’m gonna try and analyze are the psychic/dark squid pokemon Inkay and the Scatterdust pokemon, Spewpa.
Inkay’s theme seems to be based around contradictions and literally turning everything upside down (you have to turn your 3DS upside to evolve this thing), but it seems Palkia already flips space, so the only thing I could think Inkay might do is to invert the controls for enemy players?
Spewpa is the middle evolution of Scatterbug and Vivillion. It’s in the same vein as metapod in that the only move it learns is Protect. The only thing I could see Spewpa doing is using it’s hidden ability Friend Guard to protect it’s master from a few attacks. However, it’s evolution Vivillion has a neat support move called Powder. The move makes it so that anytime a fire move is used, the dust explodes and damages the pokemon. Imagine how much havoc this pokemon could make as an fire or explosion has an great chance of creating an even bigger explosion.
I could see that instead of creating Vivillion and it’s 20ish different variations, they developers simply went with the bug’s pre-evolution?
That’s all I have for pokemon analysis. If someone has cleaner screenshots please feel free to replace mine.
BUT, I would like to show of a new stage. These screenshots clearly indicate the Kalos Elite Four, with the top image being based off Drasna’s room and the bottom is the Champion’s room. I’m not sure what this stage would offer, though. Maybe the background is animated like in the game when the player first enters the room, or maybe it would be like Spear Pillar in Brawl and one of the Elite Four’s pokemon would attack the player?
