Such an amazing 48hrs the other day at the opening of the #portiageachmemorialaward in Sydney, catching up with dear artist friends, then on the Gold Coast the next night for the opening of #KathrinLonghurst’s brilliant ‘Ode to Femme’ exhibition. So honoured to have been a #PortiaGeach2018 finalist - the only major Australian portrait award that specifically celebrates the work of female artists, in memory of inspirational artist and feminist Portia Geach. This woman is an absolute tour de force 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼💪🏼. To finally see her work in the flesh after following her for so long in the digital realm was an incendiary experience. You are just so damn inspiring, @kathrinlonghurst and one of the loveliest people I’ve met to boot 🙌🏼 #kindredspirit. After hanging alongside you at the #PortiaGeach2018, seeing your stunning show at @galleryone_art was the cherry on the top of an awesome couple of days. I feel so very grateful to have been part of this incredible show! The #PortiaGeach2018 finalist exhibition opening was just ridiculously awesome. So good to catch up with some of my dearest artist friends and finally meet some special Instagram friends in real life. The calibre of the work this year was unreal. Hanging alongside a number of my favourite artists was just mind-blowing. 🤯🙏🏼 And it turns out I was right - the #PortiaGeachMemorialAward is an extraordinary thing to be a part of. I’ve never experienced such a genuinely open, supportive vibe and such a strong feeling of mutual respect, admiration and camaraderie at an opening/award event before. A huge thank you to all at @shervingallery, and to everyone who made the night so special - notably @james_north @joannabraithwaite @neilfrazer @kathrinlonghurst @carlosbob @jane_guthleben @jeska_valk @jessica_leclerc @raelene_sharp_artist. Huge congratulations to @zoeoliviayoung for taking out the major prize. Female artists #gettingitdone on so many levels.
