The cults of B’moth/ The Master of Beasts

The cults of B’moth has many similarities to Cthulhu based religions: widespread, connected to strange psychic reverberations, and a love-hate relationship with the ocean.

However there are critical differences.

Rather than promising enlightenment and a new way of existence for humanity, it promises a return to a supposed pre-industrial golden age. 

In many areas the cults have become heavily Christianized over the centuries, as shown by the most common name for The Master being a corruption of “behemoth”, and often utilizing the Biblical Great Flood in their tales of the cults origin; particularly stories of monsters that survived being forbidden to enter the Ark. This is in contrast to the Cthulhu doomsday cults, who tend to strikingly avoid explicit integration of surrounding religions..

Instruments in religious observations are almost always those not requiring industrial manufacturing techniques, though the skill of craftmanship should not be downplayed.

Strange entities working with the cults often resemble enormous terrestrial animals from various time periods with adaptations for living underwater.

I have a soft spot for barely aquatic dinosaurs designs, they remind me of Christian folklore monsters like the Pelluda that survived the Great Flood just by being spiteful enough.
