The other day I came across this awesome program by accident (I don’t even remember what I was actually searching for, but on the several times I’ve looked for a program like this I’ve had no luck)....
This [see above article,] is possibly the best art-helping tool I’ve ever used; hands-down.
Even in the free version, you can adapt the rig (body type, proportions, etc.) to whatever fits your needs, have several rigs in the same scene, adjust the direction of lighting, change the skin tone (and either shiny or matte,) and best of all; it’s a bone-based rig so the range of motion is fairly realistic.
In less than an hour after opening the program, I was able to go from this:
Which in turn became this:
Even if you use the free version (with no save-project feature,) throwing a custom rig together is fairly quick and simple.
(Plus, it’s so much easier (and faster) than trying to coerce one of my brothers into posing for a reference shot, getting them into position, walking around around trying to get the right camera angle, sorting through the all of the pictures for the perfect one, and then trying to translate their body type to that of whomever I’m drawing.)
