Senet Switch ———————————————— Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can move 1 monster on your side of the field to an adjacent (horizontal) unoccupied Monster Card Zone. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Cyberdark Impact (CDIP-EN048)
After hundreds of releases and playing in an open format, this card game offers all kinds of strategies and mechanics players can experience in both casual and competitive play. As the years passed the game focused more on archetypes to offer predefined builds to work with, with some improvements in future expansions to catch up with recent additions and rules. Unfortunately is hard to assure old strategies will get new additions to their card pool, and while popular groups of cards like Lightsworn or Six Samurai keeps getting new options to play with, there are some forgotten builds and gamestyles that try to stay barely relevant with other kinds of opportunities.
"Senet Switch" was the core card of a build with monsters and cards gaining abilities depending of their position on the board. And although that group of cards didn't success to leave a mark in the game, this Spell Card recently gained some recognition due recent rule changes in the card game as well the debut of Link Monsters. "Senet Switch" allow us to simply move a monster in our field to an adjacent Monster Card Zone from its position (As long its empty), an ability which on its own might seem completely harmless to invest on. However, the build that originates from allows its monsters to assure their best performance by changing into the proper Zone, and now with Link Monsters as well the Extra Monster Zone having a very important role in most Duels "Senet Switch" has better chances to make a huge impact by just moving a monster to a different position in our board.
Obviously "Senet Switch" outcomes will depend of the monsters we are playing arround with. The original idea arround this card is moving monsters like "Rampaging Rhynos" and "Storm Shooter" to be in front of certain targets and assure their effects against them. Other option is to meet the requeriments of "Blasting Fuse", aligning cards in front of it to be destroyed upon activation. With the introduction of Link Monsters and the Extra Monster Zone things improved considerably for "Senet Switch", as now we can focus on moving monsters behind their arrows to gain or assist on their abilities. Not only that, but due Link Monsters increases the number of Extra Deck summons we can perform thanks to their arrows, we can use "Senet Switch" to move them aside to keep the Zones they point clear for further summons. Combined with copies of itself as well the Field Spell "Castle Link" moving Link Monsters in both sides of the field, we can keep arranging monsters to assure the best results arround any effects involved.
"Senet Switch" is a great example of an old and easily forgotten card suddenly gaining some acknowledgement by the playerbase thanks to big additions and changes to the card game. The original Senet strategy might've failed to the point of never gaining further cards since their debut, but with the release of Link Monsters with all the effects and rules arround their pressence put "Senet Switch" on the spotlight. What originally was a Spell Card to place Senet monsters in front of their targets suddenly evolved into gaining the best from Link Monsters' arrows and mechanics, making it far easier to setup arround this card despite just moving monsters to their neighbour Zones. "Senet Switch" might not be a powerful card since is still pretty harmless to invest on and with its original theme being difficult to play against current strategies. But even though is not a must have for current builds, is hard to deny that Link Monsters made its usage worth trying out.
Personal Rating: C
+ Moves a monster to an adjacent Zone + Some monsters gain effects from being in front of enemies + Great sinergy arround Link Monsters
- Overall harmless to invest a whole Deck arround it - Slow to work along its original premise - Very optional and unnecessary for Link Monsters
