A/N: Hahaha, requests? Haven’t heard of them. Here’s a Sterek fic no one asked for. :D
Pairings: Stiles Stilinski x Derek Hale
Summary: When people think of a werewolf’s rut they think of the monster of myth. They conceive these thoughts of an aggressive beast with no care for their mates. They would say werewolves in rut were monsters worse than men. Creatures that should be burned alive before they could come for the woman and children. None of these people have actually been with a werewolf during his rut.
Warnings: rut, mates, heat/rut cycles, Alpha!Derek, alpha mate!Stiles, possessive behavior, puppy piles, cuddles, nesting, alpha nesting, needy!Derek,
Like always, Stiles researched all that he could on the subject. He reached out to all the resources available to him. Countless hours were spent searching the farthest reaches of the online speculation and translated texts. He even went as far as to speak with Deaton and Peter, the latter of which just handed him a box of condoms and told him to have fun.
Stiles thought he knew what to expect. When the time actually came around for Derek’s rut, he really should have known that the internet was just filled with overly horny historians and teenagers. The so-called, “big bad wolf” with his mad, possessive tendencies during mating season were all a part of someone’s wild imagination.
Derek didn’t push him against the nearest surface once his rut hit to pound him until he couldn’t walk. Stiles’ sourwolf didn’t growl or snarl at anyone who got too close to him. Derek didn’t even scent him until every supernatural critter within a twenty mile radius knew he was Derek’s. Stiles didn’t receive any of the treatment he thought he would. His alpha during rut wasn’t some monstrous, inhumanoid creature devoid of any proper humanity. Derek was just needy at most.
“I’ll love either one you choose, Derbear,” Stiles reassured Derek for the nth time. “My alpha will take the best care of me.”
“But which one, Stiles?” Derek whined, head turning on a swivel between two blankets the same shade of brown. He kneeled in the beginnings of a nest, his thick brows in a permanent furrow. Every cushion, soft fabric, and article of clothing in the house was meticulously shaped into what Stiles liked to call the Fortress of Love. Or it would be a fortress once Derek decided on a plan that he was going to stick to. The wolf had already rebuilt it twice after all.
“This one is softer, but this one is bigger. I could use one for the base and the other to tuck you in, but you’ll just get too hot. I have another one in the attic that’s more lightweight. Let me get it actually. Wait here.”
“Derek—” Stiles started, but it was no use. Derek was already rushing down the hall with inhuman speed. It didn’t matter how much Stiles told him that the nest was just right the way it was. Derek had to make it perfect.
“What kind of alpha would I be if I didn’t make the best nest for my mate?” Derek had said when Stiles brought it up to him.
“Has Derek finally decided between cotton or alpaca fur?”
Stiles turned to Erica from his position in the nest. He laid with his head propped against a mountain of pillows, Derek’s shirt hanging loosely on his frame. “He actually went with the fleece of all things. I didn’t even know we owned something made with fleece.” He wasn’t actually sure what fleece was, but if it made Derek happy then it was going in the nest.
“Give me the word and I’ll save you.”
Stiles laughed at the smirk on Erica’s face, the scent of pack and home on her made him warm. Warmer than the heaps of blankets around him. “It's fine,” Stiles said with a wave of his hand. “I just expected more of…ya know—.” He didn’t have to say it for Erica to understand, the roll of her eyes told it all. “—and less of pillow case mixing and matching.”
“He changed out the pillow cases?”
“I might have accidentally washed them yesterday.”
“Stiles,” Erica gasped as if he had done the most horrendous thing. Even Boyd, who was at the end of the hall, looked shocked. “You didn’t.”
Stiles at least at the forethought to look guilty about it. “I did.”
“Rule one of werewolf ruts: you don’t wash anything until after the rut is done.”
“Thanks for that,” Stiles said, voice dripping with sarcasm. Erica’s face shifted from horrified to smug at his tone. Her shoulders relaxed at the predicament that Stiles got himself into.
“Oh, I hear him coming.” Erica giggled. Giggle! “Good luck, Stiles.”
“I found the green one!” Derek returned just as Erica scurried away, pulling Boyd along with her. Rude, unsympathetic pups. “Do you like it?” Derek presented the quilt like it was a treasure he fought long and hard for. His eyes looked up at Stiles with all the hope and love he had to offer. And it was Derek they were talking about. The man had a lot of both.
“I love it,” Stiles told his mate, genuinely. “Where do you want to put it? Do you want me to help?” Derek quickly shook his head. He gingerly entered their nest on his knees with the quilt in hand. It took a while but Derek was finally satisfied with a placement that made his wolf happy. A few more things were changed, a couple of pillows fluffed and some non-perishable food placed in a reachable place, when Derek was well and truly content with the nest he had made.
Derek moved Stiles into the softest corner of the nest, made sure he was comfortable and gently laid himself on top of Stiles. The wolf tucked himself in for the long hall. “Thank you for being patient with me,” Derek whispered, his wolf slowly peppering Stiles’ face with kisses. His wolf wanted to lick Stiles until he was drowning in the scent of alpha, but Derek wanted to snuggle for a little longer. The steady thumps of Stiles’ heart was a lullaby he didn’t know how he lived without. The rise and fall of Stiles’ breaths were heaven under his hands.
“You have nothing to thank me for,” Stiles held his entire world in the palm of his hands. Derek’s eyes were droopy with love and a hint of lust. It was the cutest thing that Stiles had ever seen. “I’m glad you let me be here for you.”
Derek removed himself from Stiles’ hands and pushed up the fabric of his shirt until it was bunched up underneath Stiles’ neck so the skin underneath was exposed. He buried himself in the skin there, hiding the heated flush of his checks. “What did I do to deserve you?” Derek whimpered.
