A couple episodes into this volume, thinking about everything they’d said about v9 being really unique and different, my two big theories for where we were headed was:
Ruby gets kidnapped and we spend most of the volume with her apart from her team, maybe only seeing it from her point of view.
We get a volume long flashback to team STRQ via a wish to see what happened to Summer, or possibly through a “where is the summer maiden?” that leads to us either seeing her die and transferring the power or more likely at this point that she’s still alive somewhere.
But then Oscar was taken instead and the odds of spending an entire volume away from anyone in team RWBY always seemed pretty low. (Even if it meant getting very young Xiao Long-Rose family hijinks.) It didn’t really seem likely that we’d end up with anyone else being held by Salem by the end of the same volume and then she blew up. Okay, so not going to happen. They slipped to the back of my mind.
Except kidnapped Oscar told that story of the girl who fell through the world and now all the pieces are aligning where it seems more and more likely that we’re going to see team RWBY falling through the world into some kind of possible time travel shenanigans and I genuinely cannot believe I was so close and yet so comically far.
Not Ruby kidnapped and apart from everyone and not a flashback, but team RWBY apart from everyone else but flashing back together.
Hello! I love your scum villain fics! I’ve noticed a lot of my fave my hero academia and scum villain authors also write a lot of what’s called “Batfam” fic I think?
Do you have any recs for how to get into “Batfam?” I have zero clue about DC Comics beyond that Batman and Joker exist lol, but I’d love to continue engaging with my fave authors in their other fandom, especially because by law of association, I’m sure I’d like the tropes and themes used in Batfam if all my faves also like Batfam (^O^)
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like my writing so much!!
Batfam is a whole thing. It'll probably include Batman, any of the given Robins, any of the personas the Robins took on (Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Spoiler), and just kind of anyone directly associated with Batman or Gotham. You could maybe stretch it to include the Teen Titans or Young Justice depending on context? Also sometimes Superman or the Justice League... it gets messy. There are also so many crossovers with Danny Phantom
As for getting into Batfam.... ahhhhhhhhhhh hmmmmmm...
It's all over the place and there are entire Canon arcs that are just... ignored. Also full disclosure, what I know of "Canon" Batfam includes: > Young Justice (HBO Max has it I think?)
> Teen Titans (Haven't watched Go, there's too much random non-action related shouting)
> Harley Quinn Show (May or may not be the actual name of the show, also HBO Max)
> Friends info dumping about their fav DC character
> Commentary/Discussion of my workouts up to and including aerial in relation to Nightwing/Dick Grayson
> My favorite villain/antihero vibe being Poison Ivy
> Wayne Family Adventure (which may or may not be canon? It's on Webtoons and is fluffy slice of life) - I also haven't read all of this
> and reading large amounts of fanfiction / fandom blogs / discord servers
Sorry if that isn't more helpful. I haven't actually read well... pretty much any of the comics. I physically own Nightwing A Knight In Bludhaven Compendium One but I'm all of maybe 20 pages in (It is also an Event)
((I totally get that DC as a whole and even just Batman is super intimidating and/or confusing to get into. Don't feel you need to like... know it all though or have read even half of it. There is sooooo many different versions and honestly, there's a pretty distinct disconnect between canon and fanon when it comes to DC. See: Tim (Robin III and later Red Robin) and his coffee))
If you're looking for great Batfam fan fiction my go to would be Envysparkler
if you want to just go on a whole TikTok/Youtube rabbit hole there's also PandaRedd. I'm not entirely sure how easy it would be to parse what is "canon" and what's not but you can definitely see the waves of his influence in the fandom/fanfiction. Also I just find him absolutely entertaining and a good compilation to throw on when I'm doing static sets

Sometimes I wonder about the people who follow my fashion blog and whether they know that I'm actually a huge loser dork and that the aesthetic the blog is built around is inspired by a cartoon character.
