dirk has been an orphan for pretty much as long as he can remember. if he’s ever once seen his birth parents, he doesn’t remember a single thing about it. literally the only thing he remembers (or has) from his early life is lil cal, of whom he doesn’t ever recall... not having.

that said, pretty much his entire childhood has been compromised of foster families that would eventually and inevitably fail. he was very much a Problem Child, to say the least. he disliked company and was especially prone to bad habits, no matter the environment he had been put in.

he picked up his fascination of weaponry (namely swords or other sharp things he could throw at people) at an alarmingly early age, much to the chagrin of literally anyone who has ever had to deal with him when he was teen.

(this is also kinda why he really didn’t want to be a father figure. he hadn’t had the best experience with parental figures and much preferred being the cool big brother instead, because he always really wanted one himself.)
