Why does shade not like lifeblood?
Okay so, the more complex explanation is that Void Shade is filled with only Void and Soul. Both Void and Soul have their own reservoir of intent, and when they interact in a very specific ratio, the process lets Shade have both intent and power. (Also another reason they are constantly ‘purring’ or buzzing) The most important part of this though is that Soul is what’s giving Shade personality. Void has a personality, but it does not allow Shade to access this, so Soul is what’s driving Shade personality wise, while Void is driving Shade form wise. Both give Shade power and intent. Though Void is giving more power then Soul.
Now, Shade’s a pretty neat dude, but they are technically unstable, stable enough to stay together, but still unstable. Which is why lifeblood, once brought into the equation, can cause so much havoc.
See, Lifeblood is a simple thing. It can only really do one task at a time, but if you assign multiple factions of it to different tasks, then put those factions together, it can become a powerful life giving force. Lifeblood Core serves to give Shade power and intent. Lifeblood Heart gives Shade personality, and Joni’s blessing gives Shade the ability to have form. All of these would be very nice and useful, were it not for the presence of Void and Soul. The intent inside Void and Soul insures that both have the will to live, so when the presence of lifeblood threatens their ability to live, they respond negatively.
If Soul and Void made a different ratio this would not be a problem (See, Ghost, who has more Soul and less Void than Shade) but since Shade is made the way they are, the whole Lifeblood situation doesn’t work with them. The Lifeblood Heart overwhelms the Soul alongside Lifeblood Core, which works with Joni’s Blessing to act like a threat to Void, who does not take kindly to this treatment. Ergo, a battle of survival is literally happening inside of Shade, which is why they are in so much pain and can hardly see.
