Sometimes I think about how white people always act like anti-black and anti-PoC atrocities happened over 100 years ago or something, like they shouldn't still feel about about them anymore.
But Emmett Till was killed in 1955 at age 14. My mother was born in 1955. If he hadn't been brutally murdered, he'd be 74 this year and could easily have a child my age or my 33 year old sister's age. That's not old.
And my mom dated a black man (my father) only about 30 years ago. White people like to assume that because they were still together and had a child they had some fairytale relationship of acceptance.
No. My family threatened to disown my mom and they both were harassed countless times by both races whenever they went out together. White people giving my mom disgusted looks because she'd "fucked a black guy," black people telling my dad he was betraying his own kind by being "with a white bitch."
For real. Just look up some dates and watch the news. Takes two seconds to get some real perspective on what's actually going on.
Why have I been so Blind?
Where have I been ,my whole life?
Have my eyes just been opened to the issues of race that surround me? Have I been so sheltered that I never realized that this is not a post-racial society? How am I just NOW SEEING this?!? Is it the college environment? Is it African American/BlackTumblr?
WHY HAVE I BEEN SO BLIND? Why am I just realizing the micro-aggressions? Why is America still so racist? Why am I not represented in the media? Why do African American women like me not exist in mainstream books? Why do people assume I speak African? Why do people STILL not know that Africa is NOT a country? Why do people think my natural 4c hair is nasty? Why do people think I only got into college with a scholarship because i'm black? Does that mean your mind thinks I got on the Deans list due to the dark color of my skin?
Why are people so ignorant? And why am I just realizing it?
Reverse racism and everything you need to know about its existence.
I have had to post wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many things on America and Americans being foolish and ridiculous and racist lately. If you even remotely believe in the idea of post-racial America or agree with the actions, thoughts, an beliefs of the fools, we cannot be friends. Because that obviously means that you don't care about my life.
