jfccccccccc really
yeah, i hope there's some serious attention brought to it, because that particular short film was awful even when you try to look past the obvious racism

holy shit, is she for real?
One of the participants to paraphase said 'look everyone has their strengths, black people have soul and rhythym, and their beautiful when they dance, but white people have brains, its just genetics, its not like you need brains when your hunting kangaroos and shit'
Sometimes im so critical of shows like this because it is contrived but ive met so many people (especially through work) who just have such shitty opinions

:D What man doesnt have a 'doggies doing human things' folder.
postdramamatic said: huh, interesting observation. i wonder whether like a popularity poll would confirm this.
the only real basis for my assumption is tumblr/other social media, so i might as well be way off anyway, but it definitely feels that way to me.
maybe it's just another case of where the previous leader is viewed more favourably in light of the current leader, and especially when in this case the current leader is diabolically awful even by Australian bourgeois political standards, and similarly a year and a bit ago it seemed that everyone was begging to get Rudd back and managing to forget why he was even ousted in the first place.
postdramamatic said: Have you got any documents about expectations (I know teaching does, is all)? Just try to roll with it. They know the whole situation is new to you, and I’m willing to bet it’ll be a lot of introductory stuff, so you can learn what they expect of you
nah, the only thing I have is a confirmation sheet telling me the hours, dress code etc. i only know on a very basic level what i'm likely to be doing, but not the full details.
postdramamatic said: You’ll do great! Don’t worry about learning new skills and routines, they know that’s what you’ve got to do, just try to show ‘em your enthusiasm and initiative.
i don't know what to expect (although two of the people there were both tutors in one class of mine), it's just the uncertainty of what they'd expect from a 19yo, second year student which has me feeling a bit nervous. i know i'd be polite and show enthusiasm, and i do know i'd want to put in as much as possible to show my capabilities and that i'm worth remembering for all the right reasons?
postdramamatic said: I regularly come across teachers who joke about this and it makes me so uncomfortable. Even if the joke doesn’t highlight some underlying personal beliefs, it is fucked up and totally not appropriate, I can’t believe they do it in all honesty.
did this come with the resumption of all this punishment discussion? if not, then it's very worrying to a high degree that this sort of thing still exists in the conscious of the teacher(s).
