Iosif Stalin's speech delivered at the XIX Congress of the CPSU on 14 October 1952.
63 years ago two dogs became heroes of the Soviet space program when they spent a day in space orbiting around the Earth. Former street dogs Belka ("squirrel") and Strelka ("little arrow") became the first ever Earth-bound creatures to survive a trip to outer space. The purpose of the mission was to see how the dogs would react to zero gravity in space.

Did you know that Stalin helped coin the term American Exceptionalism? It's 1927, and J. Lovestone, then General Secretary of CPUSA, the Communist Party of the U.S., had some disagreements with Stalin. Stalin was frustrated by the American Communists' resistance to revolution, especially in comparison to other international communist parties. Lovestone would explain it away by insisting that the United States and Americans are far different than the rest of the world and are an exception to the expectation and things just don't work the same here. Stalin would then call this 'the heresy of American exceptionalism'. Though Lovestone would go on to form his own anti-communist party as well as work with the CIA. And while this wouldn't be the first instance of Americans being accused of acting as though they are the exception to the world, I do like the idea of Stalin being the one specifically coining the term. It's very fitting.
