Really bummed at YouTube raising the monetisation requirements 2fold. Was starting to legit hope I’d someday make it to the current requirements (and I’ve been making strides- daily uploads, almost 100k total views on my channel, nearly 300 subs, I’m getting luckier than I thought I would) and now I’ll have to work twice as hard for a chance- sucks for smaller creators like me and just makes shit harder.

With YouTube tripling the amount of ads and making them 5x as long (that’s not an exaggeration) they could absolutely afford to LOWER the requirements (personally I’d rather them just have a functional platform but we can’t have everything, right folks?) but instead they’re just making it hard for hard working humans to ever see a penny from our work.

I love what I do and I love making videos, but this shit sucks. This awful platform is constantly making it harder as a creator and I just don’t often talk about it because truthfully nobody cares but it genuinely sucks butt. Removing dislikes from shorts and replacing likes with a heart, removing likes from video statistics from shorts, adding bullshit ai remixing to shorts, ai trying to reply to comments for me and say shit I’d never say, shadow banning a video about online censorship, refusing to ever promote long form content and only pushing shorts, it sucks. The platform sucks.

I’d start posting my short form content to TikTok however I’m in several at-risk demographics and it would be an actual safety risk to me to do so, this is why I don’t have TikTok. Instagram sucks for it and trains ai off all its content by default and also doesn’t promote artists in the algorithm.

I’m making this post in an attempt to scream into the void about how shit it all is. I don’t know, consider speaking out against it yourself if you’re willing. Maybe try contacting YouTube directly (but to be honest the only way to do that is through twitter nowadays, which I will be doing), make a stink about it.
