Can I just have a fic or scene where Bucky Barnes and Carol Danvers talk about losing their family/friends/lovers because they were both turned into weapons without their consent, brainwashed and erased and forced to fight and kill for organizations that lied to and manipulated them, that they also would have opposed because they are inherently good people who fought to come back to themselves and now stand on the outskirts of their own happiness because they keep coming back to the fight?
One thing that struck me with Mrs. Evans in this episode that never occurred in the og was how willfully ignorant and privileged she is.
‘The other boy’. That’s Michael. Michael is the other boy. Not Max & Isabel’s brother (and what else is the town going to assume he is other than related to the two other kids when the three are found together with no memories). Not even their best friend, and its clear that they were extremely close in their formative years so either 1) she forgot what the little boy looked like which seems unlikely 2) she never let him near the house which is cruel 3) she deliberately ignores it. Michael has never left the town, which is small enough that she is worried about what her bridge club thinks and Max comments that ‘we know everybody’. The Evans have to know damn well ‘that poor boy’ didn’t get help because they know, just like the town knows, he ended up in foster care and bounced around from place to place. So to say that to Max’s face? Even if she didn’t, what she is basically saying is that the seven-year-old boy who was probably (to the best of their knowledge his brother) wasn’t taken in because he was drawing a strange symbol on the wall.
That is a very cold attitude to have about a child.
*Spoilers Endgame; Do Not Engage if You Don't Want to Be Spoiled*
Do they seriously want me to buy that 2012 Steve wasn't going wtf at the line "Loki" threw out? Like 1) how would Loki know who Bucky is and 2) how would he know talking about Bucky would throw him off guard? You telling me Steve wasn't going on later on thinking "what if that liar was telling the truth" and wondering?
Also, Loki. He took the Tesseract and disappeared in 2012! Nothing about his storyline makes sense anymore unless he was sipping a latte at the Starbucks down the street! Because 1) he disappearwd 2) therefore no return to Asgard 3) no being there during the Dark World 4) no Ragnarok and 5) no death.
Him disappearing with the Tesseract and no one finding him or fixing it destabalizes everything!
What happened with the Apocalypse the first time around? Reggie's funeral was like a week before it. Why were they all there? Was Luther banging on doors and grabbing them from street alleys demanding to know who killed Reggie everyday? Did Vanya call a meeting and then explode on all of them? Was Klaus hanging around cause Reggie's kicked the bucket and his drugs are stashed there and its a roof over his head? Was Diego tired of the boiler room? Why was Allison not back in L.A.?
Was Ben watching all of it and going "this shit show" every five minutes?
So, I want to be happy that Steve got to be with Peggy because I love them as much as Steve/Bucky, but I can't by Steve going to the past and let Hydra continue and Bucky continue to be used as an assassin. Just can't.
Everything about Carol? There was too little of her but I like that she reminded the Avengers that they weren’t the only ones affected by the snap. Everyone was. The entire universe. And the fact that she was beating on Thanos. A+++
When she grabbed the gauntlet from Peter and the rest of the women stood up behind her? She’s not alone. Yes, everything I want is for all the female superheroes to kick ass and take no shit.
Wanda being pissed and beating on Thanos like she did on Ultron. Yes
Natasha being Natasha. I love that she never gave up and she kept fighting to be a hero until the end. She was a good person, no matter what.
I actually liked Tony’s death? I didn’t expect him to die and I was upset when he did and I don’t really care about him much usually so the fact that I was upset was a good moment for me.
Seeing Howard and seeing that talk but….well
Thor giving up his crown to Valkyrie because he realizes he’s not a King but a warrior. Him talking to his mother and wanting to save her and just everything about Frigga’s entire being.
Steve being worthy of the hammer. I mean, we all knew he was but the “her, you take the little one line”. Gold.
The dusted coming back and standing behind the Avengers. Nebula (future Nebula) being like ‘fuck you Thanos”.
Everything about Rocket.
Everything about Scott and the fact that at least Casey lived.
The Cons:
Steve being the most selfish I have ever seen him? Like even if he and Bucky talked about it before hand (and I think they did because Bucky and him said I’ll miss you despite Bruce bring like “dude it will be five seconds”) but knowing that he is going to sit there and condemn Bucky (who has been consistently shown as being one of the most, if not the most important person to him whether you believe that’s romantically or not) to seventy years of torture and murder? To living a life without him in it? Yes, Bucky has T’Challa and Shurt and, arguably at this point Sam cause they’re not friends yet, but Steve is his grounding point and Steve is gone. Steve left him to torture and death. I one-hundred percent think the reason he didn’t go to him at the end is because he was hurt.
And not only that, but Steve would literally have to live a lie to preserve the timeline. He wakes up in 2012. Steve Rogers would never be a public face. He would never be able to see Howard or the boys or Bucky’s family if they were still alive. No one who can recognize him. And he would have had to lie to Peggy. There is no way she would have sat back and let HYDRA grow underneath her nose like that if she’d known. She’s too moral a person. I don’t think she would have let it continue. So Steve basically lives a lie his entire life, mixed with the guilt of him knowing what’s happening to Bucky, knowing what’s going to happen to Natasha, knowing all these things? And I’m supposed to believe he was happy? I don’t.
All I can say is she better have still started SHIELD and been badass. (Also, am I then supposed to buy that Sharon didn’t know she was kissing her uncle in Civil War? I don’t.)
(Also, it takes away Peggy and Sousa who were cute, but the least of the screwed up things about the storyline to me).
Then there was also him letting Howard and Maria die. After all the fallout from that he lets it happen? I just…this effectively ruins the type of person he is. I want him to be happy. I love Steve/Peggy and Steve/Bucky but I can’t be happy for Steve/Peggy with all the consequences of that.
They killed off Natasha and no, just no. Her life has been nothing but horror and that is how she dies? No. Just no. I love that she wanted to be a good person but the more logical choice is Clint, I’m sorry. He’d had nothing at that point and if they’d failed? He wouldn’t have wanted to live.
Also, why bring back the Red Skull at all if Steve isn’t the one going to Voromir? Why?
Finally….the timeline is fucked and nothing should have happened because they never solved the Loki kerfuffle! He took off with the damn Tesseract in 2012! Therefore, none of his actions in the original timeline would have been done so Russo brothers you screwed your own narrative! Also, Nebula shot her past self? Shouldn't she have died? Like, what?
