I find it weird that the moment I try something new on this site I kinda fall back into old habits. Or at least with this hobby.
I've hit quite the Lionel renaissance bug lately. Four new passenger cars join the collection, all from 2008. They are the Conventional Classics reissues of the Irvington Pullmans (specifically the ones broken up from the Outfit #2124 reissue, Set 6-31777, featuring a No. 2332 GG1 leading the set) and the Sager Place observation car, item 6-27903.
The Irvingtons were Lionel's only heavyweight passenger cars during the postwar era, being produced from 1946 to 1950 and then disappearing (supposedly there were manufacturing errors) and would not be seen again until the mid 90s I think. The Sager Place observation was never produced, and likely planned to but never left the drawing board.
They are, without a doubt, some of the more iconic looking Lionel postwar cars ever made. Originals are usually too expensive or too poor shape to acquire and look nice, so the reissues fit the bill perfectly. In time, they will be running behind my 783 Hudson, and eventually a Berkshire and a newer traditional-sized GG1 if I can find one (not that I plan to anyways, I really don't have a need for more Pennsylvania themed locomotives in the roster).
