Do I believe Ryland Grace is aroace and that being an INCREDIBLY important factor to the narrative, aswell as beautiful representation in mainstream media, and if you ship him with any character in the movie you have grossly misinterpreted his character.

Writing a swap AU. Here's the plan for characters :3

Simon - electrical engineer with a speciality in propulsion devices. Was working for the army to develop weapons. Blew up the test facility testing one of his devices, killing 6 people. It broke the record for the most amount of energy outputted by a purely electrical propulsion device. But alas, he was imprisoned for 30 years for neglectful actions and manslaughter. He worked for the government, someone's head had to roll.

Stratt freed him under the condition he worked for her as she needed his knowledge to develop the Hail Mary, something that would be propelled through space for 11 years. He accepted in the hopes he could "make up" for his sins.

Adrien (She/they pronouns) - Chemist specialising in Arophage. After their crew started dying, she discovered radiation, becoming the first Eridian Astrochemist . But it was already too late. The engineer on the ship had already died, and she was the only one healthy enough to help their crew. They tried their best, but in the end, she was the only one who survived. They barricaded themself into their lab next to the astrophage supply, and for the next 40 years, she did nothing but experiment on atrophage. In the hope that she would be rescued, and with their knowledge of atrophage she could "make up" for not being able to save their crew by helping the next team that came.

Grace - A science teacher on the Eden space station. One day, he was asked to be a part of the frontiering science crew that would go with the crew to raid Filiment Station. Their job was to go in after Filiment Station was captured to secure the science equipment, scientific procedures, and safety checks. He did not want to go, but his twin brother Colt was on the army raiding the station, and Colt promised to keep Grace safe. He reluctantly accepted.

But it didn't go to plan. He saw his brother be enveloped in flames, reaching out for his hand. But Grace froze in fear and ran. He was captured by the C.I.O. He went down into the Iron Lung on a scientific expedition without hesitation in the hopes he could "make up" for his cowerdness and actually do something good for a change.

It will probably be a collection of works as I want to delve into all their back stories before they met. But at the same time, I'm trying to keep the scope relatively tame, so idk exactly how long it will be.

We go on this emotional roller-coaster with driver, yet by the end of the film we have learnt nothing about him before the period of his life, besides that he like car. WE DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO HIM AFTER. AND WE DONT EVEN KNOW HIS NAME

I like aroace Grace headcanons too but I find it odd people insist it's canon or an important factor to his character instead of just a neat way to choose to interpret him. I've noticed how characters are interpreted as ace depending solely on if they have or want a partner as if someone choosing to be single automatically means they are on the ace spectrum and not something that can apply to anyone including ace or allo. In the case of Movie Grace, his girlfriend left him and romance/sex is just a small portion of what he'd give up by not going back to Earth after finding a sense of belonging and wanting to remain near his friend so it's hard to say if that makes him ace since sacrifice is part of his character and romance is not in this story. That said It's unfair how some almost imply people cannot have a fulfilling life without a romantic/sexual partner or vaule friendship more unless they are aroace, It feels like the new version of "He has no girlfriend and sees his friend as the most important, obviously he's gay coded and if you say otherwise you're wrong" I've seen back in the day with characters.

Not trying to discredit how you or anyone choose to look at Grace but I cannot lie it rubs me wrong how one can say it's grossly misinterpreting his character if you ship him or don't see him as aroace or how insistent some have been about the topic for characters headcanoned as a certain sexuality. I say this as an aroace person myself so it's not like I'm against the headcanon or would be upset if it were canon (the opposite actually) it just feels odd how people can't enjoy ace takes without making it a whole "If you don't see it like that you're misinterpreting it" even if casually.

For me, my interpretation of Grace being aroace is very dear and important to me because I am also on the aroace scale. I see alot of myself in him and feel very represented by his character

The beautiful thing about film and art in general is that it's subjective. It's MADE to be interpreted differently by every viewer, separate from the creators intentions. If you're not really for your art to be interpreted differently from how you intended, you're not ready to make art.

At the end of the day, you can interpret Grace however you want, but you have to be ready for the fact that people r going to disagree with you

When I see strattland and (the horrors of) grocky, I hate it. But I do nothing with that hate, I just simply complain with my other arcoace Grace and Bloodymary pilled twin
