Patty Cake Make A Potato
Here is one of my completely made up dishes being as I don’t recall at this point in my life seeing a cake of this nature made mostly of potato that is. I am calling this “Patty Cake Make A Potato”, I thought this name was cute and sort of creative. ^_^ It was originally suppose to be potato sticks but I totally screwed up the recipe because well I added the egg yolk and milk to the dough mixture instead of glazing it. I also decided to go further into making this dish more of a dessert/cake by topping it with both sesame seeds and brown sugar these two ingredients really make the dish come alive as a dinner dessert. It’s also great to have a slice for breakfast if you want a little sugar in the morning as a wonderful alternative to the sugary pastries such as donuts for example. Anyways let’s get to showing you how to make this wonderful discovery that was a accident and just blossomed from there. ^_~
Ingredients:
5oz or 2 to 3 Small potatoes (Sliced I also left the skin on them but you can peel them if you prefer)
10 Tablespoons of butter
1 ¼ Cups of flour
Pinch of salt
1 Egg yolk (The yellow middle part make sure you separate the clear liquid without bursting the yolk I will explain how below)
2 Tablespoons of milk
Sesame seeds (For the topping)
Brown sugar (Again for the topping)
Now that you got all that down and making sure you have the following ingredients though you may choose not to add or change the portions as you see fit to make it slightly different if you wish, its your dish and that’s the fun of baking. Anyways let’s get to those steps LOL
Step 1: This is one of the most important steps cook your potatoes for about 20 minutes on the stove top with water in a pot after prepping. After waiting the amount of time needed and the potatoes are nice and tender strain them and without touching them as they are still hot transfer them to a large mixing bowl wait until they are cooled about 15 minutes.
Step 2: Now that your potatoes are cooled preheat the oven to 400F, get out your masher, and start squishing them until they are nice and fluffy mash! Then melt your butter 5 tbsp at a time in a small microwave container for about 30 seconds and pour in with your potatoes. Also add in the milk, salt, as well as the egg yolk which I will now take the time to explain the process which you must do before adding it in. Okay the egg yolk you are going to need a small bowl, crack your egg gently down the middle so that it splits in half slightly but not too much that you break too much of the shell or inside starts falling out before you get it over the bowl. Make sure your egg is over the bowl now gently pry apart the two halves, shift the yolk without busting it and in a slow motion from left to right making sure it lands in the egg shell and that the egg whites are dripping down into the bowl, make sure that your egg shells are also at a tilted angle. Once you have done this repeatedly until the yolk is separated add the yolk to your large baking bowl along with the potato, milk, & melted butter. You may so you don’t waste food save the egg white to be in another dish or fry it up on its own but it must be used that same day! (This prevents it from going bad if you forget about it and it’s just best to do so.)
Step 3: Now add the flour mix together in the potato egg, milk, butter mixture into it forms a nice stiff like dough you may need more flour but I was fine with just the 1 ¼ Cups. Once the dough is ready and the ingredients are all mixed together grab all the dough from the bowl and roll it into a huge ball, make sure the ball is smooth. Next, set aside and take out a cookie sheet (a cookie sheet is best because you don’t have to grease it) place your giant dough ball on the sheet and using your hands squish it into kinda of a huge round disk but not too flat it needs to have a couple inches of depth so it’s like a small cake form. ^_^ After you have done this step sprinkle on the sesame seeds & brown sugar, put in the oven, and wait 10 to 12 minutes until it is golden brown or the dough is firm, a little crunchy like in texture but still fluffy we don’t want it way too crunchy no fun eating a cake that's like brittle. You should be able to test using a fork or toothpick if it comes out clean it is done! Now wait for the dish to cool then slice and enjoy! ^_^
