Ingredients: 5 large potatoes. 1/2 cup milk. 4 tablespoons butter. Salt to taste. Assorted toppings e.g., shredded cheese, bacon bits, chopped chives, sour cream.
Instructions: Peel and chop the potatoes into small chunks. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk and butter to the pot with the potatoes. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy. Season with salt to taste. Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. Set up a variety of toppings in separate bowls for guests to customize their mashed potato creations. Serve the mashed potatoes hot with the assorted toppings.
