Lucille in 'The Magic Carpet' (1951). Yes, this movie was a bit of a stinker but it was probably the shortest filming schedule of her career as she completed her obligation in just five days. The only good thing about this film were the costumes and that Lucille was in it. The story behind why she was in this movie is much better than the movie itself, but I digress. I'll save that for another time. #lucilleball #themagiccarpet #potboiler #stinky #badmovies #obligation #columbiapictures https://www.instagram.com/p/CM5UQdMnj4w/?igshid=ucrofbijcfeq
Imagine this:
The moment some potboiler-type film serial episode of the Saturday-matinee type starts getting predictably corny, with equally-predictable (almost hackneyed) action guaranteed to follow--cut it off just as things start becoming unbelievable and quickly switch over to some choice Golden Age Hanna-Barbera flicktoonry.
Or, for variety, a proto-MTV Banana Splits or Cattanooga Cats music clip.
(The better, obviously, to catch unaware such too dependent on “poor white cultural identity and folkways,” including an Unhealthy Reliance Bordering on Dependency on Walmart, for one. And a warped nostalgia which insists that Branson’s so-called “music shows” be the defining measure of American Cultural Identity.)

A new comic is up today at Potboiler: Deef is Peckish, written by Marc Bryant.
It’s another story with no dialogue. My writer friends are really into those right now. Anyway! Head over and take a look.
Word of the Day

be yourself, it suits you
Whenever @ssweet-dispositionn is online, my feed is just a bunch of reappearing photographs and Tumblr posts. And I get that you want to reblog the things your idol reblogs and likes but seriously... Tumblr is a place to express yourself. To express who you are, how you feel, what you're thinking or just to blog about things you feel you relate to or could relate to in the future. Don't just reblog to reblog because of a person. If you like the post, go for it, be yourself. If not, don't try and be someone you're not. Don't be a potboiler because we all know the fact that most songs/books/etc nowadays are potboilers and that makes me sad. I want art with meaning, I want people to be themselves in this crazy place we call our home. Don't do things just to appease the general public, be extraordinary, be unique, be yourself.
