I've already asked about why was he happy to see hector in the locker many times now it's time for me to ask another stupid question, why was he so soft here while talking to hector about their imminent destruction by capitalism.

imagine you are Cutler Beckett and you have this young stupid rebellious captain who fumbled a valuable cargo out of some "ethics" or whatever, so naturally you execute and drown him with his ship (just good business ok) and afterwards you may remember him as someone unusual but overall normal looking guy. Fast forward fifteen years you are on a mission to conquer the seas and establish the rules of capitalism over everything etc etc, and the only thing that's been stopping you is a stupid rebellious gang of pirates and so you decide to negotiate things with the only person you are somewhat familiar with among all of them, that captain who survived. You haven't seen him since the execution. So imagine you're Cutler Beckett and you're expecting a regular now-pirate rebel you remember but instead this motherfucker shows up

idk but the fact that Beckett and Barbossa have never met amuses me so much like everyone else was communicating left and right while this two divas were just plotting against each other, but one side was probably not even aware of another existence and the other had some faceless concept of global capitalism instead of a small british man. queen shit

today I learned the expression "you're my true north" and unfortunately immediately thought about jack sparrow's pre-cotbp freaky compass that was clearly unable to point to anything jack wanted since the thing he wanted most was to kill barbossa. its arrow was strictly fixed and so naturally acted as any normal compass would act but instead the north it pointed to barbossa. I just think it's delicious. jack would hate this phrase

gifs with the jack's speech in shipwreck cove reminded me about my fav headcanon for jack which is that he once read a shitload of roman law manuscripts to become better at arguing. that made him dangerously annoying

which could mean nothing (it actually doesn't I just like to think that Jack kept calling himself by the name of another old flame of Hector)

I can't believe they deleted peas in a pod scene and no one heard jack saying "i admire a person who's willing to do whatever is necessary, so if you don't want him I'll take him hope you don't mind" and then Elizabeth couldn't reply because the man in question arrived. real shame they didn't leave that in the final version

I love how when you watch potc for the first time Barbossa marooned Jack for all normal reasons like greed/to get more of that treasure/to become a captain/it was a good ship/etc. however it is far more likely that Barbossa was annoyed out of his brain and it wasn't cortes treasure or even a ship it was a "is it a hat or you just glad to see me" joke.

I mean, I'm not sure if I should consider jack as an overall decent ok person before the mutiny and seeing everything post it as a trauma response or whatever, but I'm almost 100% sure he was insufferable to barbossa personally out of some sort of cute aggression. It would make so much sense to me.
