'Do your own research' and the Dunning-Kruger Effect
First, let's get one thing clear: It's not "the mainstream media" that's found evidence of a warming climate, the mainstream media don't even do climate research anymore than the most signatories of these petitions do. The evidence has been found by climate researchers and published in scientific journals. In fact, a lot of the mainstream media have spent the last thirty years rejecting the evidence for global warming.
But why the carefully-worded "More than 1100 scientists and professionals"? After all, scientists are professionals. So, why not say "More than 1100 professionals" have signed this petition? To understand why, you have to understand who's organized the petition: A Dutch political lobby group called Clintel.
The two founders wrote this carefully-worded declaration, and in order to bump up the number of signatures, they invited anyone with a degree and a pulse to sign it. If you're a dentist or a stockbroker and you have strong feelings about climate science, you can sign the petition too! So, you have to read the names on the petition to find out that a lot of these "scientists" are in fact lawyers, ship designers, political lobbyists, journalists, economists, mining company CEOs, and business owners. And that's just a fraction of the signatories from Australia alone.
“They're all low-hanging fruit because crap is crap."
The story of the Earth in 33 minutes
In the rest of the world, conservatives have no problem accepting climate science and free market solutions. Even ten of the world’s biggest oil and gas companies accept it. They say they’re gearing themselves up for what they see as a huge transition into renewable energy. So what are these conservatives seeing that American conservatives aren’t?
