Summary: When the simple act of opening the front door plunges you into the depths of a political conspiracy, you know you should have stayed in bed.
This fic was written as part of hd_hols (and the standard is high as always)! Starts off Harry/Ginny, featuring Auror!Trio and Auror!almost everybody essentially, but things happen along the way to change that. When the story picks up, Draco is an Unspeakable working to break down a lethal potions-related plot that's targeted at the Minister and enlists Harry's assistance. I loved the intrigue and the characters were wonderfully developed. Especially enjoyed the author's wit and beautiful beautiful command of the language; it really makes a difference to the reading experience! ALSO, UST!!! Maybe a bit too witty but my pretentious obnoxious snobby inner reader is not complaining keke. Excerpt:
“I don’t live here, Potter, if that was what you were expecting. It’s a sanctuary of sorts, which my father’s father arranged a long time ago, probably for all the reasons you’d assume.” Malfoy gestured towards the single visible door in the room, whose latch and handle seemed tarnished beyond the capacity to ever open again. “The Muggles haven’t missed it in at least sixty years.”
Harry cast a hopeful Tergeo on the nearest settee, and was greatly relieved when the rickety seat survived both the magic and the removal of what may have been a structurally integral layer of grime.
“Kreacher.” The elf appeared immediately as if he’d been waiting for Malfoy’s call since the last time he’d wanted him. “Afternoon tea, please, in the usual Black custom. Battenberg cake, rather than Victoria sponge, if you could, and perhaps skip the egg sandwiches. Thank you.”
Harry watched Kreacher vanish without even the smallest acknowledgement of Harry’s presence, and he turned a glare on Malfoy. “You know, some people might consider it polite to ask before using someone else’s house elf.”
“And some people wear socks with sandals, so I suppose we all have our little flaws. Get out the list, Potter, and let’s get on with this.”
