Potterverse!Devin headcanons please

Devin is a pureblood wizard and, although he’s American, was invited to study at Hogwarts because of his family’s prestige, doing well in muggle America without resorting to using magic though they do have strong ties to the magical community. Both of his older cousins studied at Hogwarts and he is a Gryffindor.

Wand: 12 1/2 inches Reed with Unicorn hair core

Patronus: Pheonix

History of Magic and Charms are his best subjects and his “electives” are Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures and Arithmancy

Boggart is his loved ones dead bodies.

there’s sadly actually precedent for this, since she got her wounds from being attacked by Fenrir Greyback? like, even in his non-shifted form, he did enough damage to Bill in HBP that there was some lycanthropic cross-contamination and there was briefly fear that Bill wouldn’t make it?

……but the point is that he did make it. because, as you said? a magic school, where there is magic, and because Madame Pomfrey has been established as being The Best And Most Capable Fucking Healer You Have Ever Met In Your Entire Life since the first book (and this isn’t relevant to anything but… idk, I know Emma Thompson plays Trelawney, but my personal mental image of Mme. Pomfrey always looked… really similar to Emma Thompson in Stranger than Fiction)

anyway, like, tbh, when doing triage, I’m pretty sure that Madame Pomfrey would know to put, “the girl with a bunch of awful werewolf wounds” ahead of things that are still bad but less serious, like broken arms, stinging jinxes, stunning spells, or even like post-Cruciatus exhaustion (which I imagine, based on canon, is really awful, but also doesn’t involve the potential to bleed to death right the frick now)

and I mean. there had to be other people helping with the wounded. Slughorn went into the battle, but Professor Sprout could’ve been there (since, as the herbology teacher, she might not be on Mme. Pomfrey’s level, but she has to have some knowledge of Which Things You Can Use To Heal What And Under Which Circumstances), and once things were more settled, you’d have Flitwick and McGonagall (though she’s acting headmistress so maybe not?)

and if they didn’t get a bunch of Healers on-site right off the bad, then they’d have to bring some in once Voldemort was dead because the number of people wounded is more than Mme. Pomfrey could reasonably be expected to handle on her own here and just?? there is no good reason why there wouldn’t have been enough time and resources to save Lavender. none. :/

there are places where my headcanons might not line up with yours neatly — like my headcanon Zacharias is very gay and very obnoxious about it because it gets on his dad's nerves, but he and Pansy totally accidentally develop a cute queerplatonic bond that starts out with them just judging people together……

and then there's poor Justin over here, going, "hey uh?? boyfriend? girlfriend?? can we just…… guys?? …Zach, Pansy, ffs please, it's weird enough for me to be here with your rich magical society friends, a handful of whom were on Team Blood Purist Jerks until You Know Who disabused them of the idea that blood purism was a sustainable social model?? it's awkward because I'm Muggleborn and rich mages have different behaviors from rich Muggles, and okay, I totally agree that Astoria's dress is ugly but can you two just…… behave yourselves until we get home???? then you can be as mean as you want about everyone you don't like, which is a list that unfortunately includes most of humanity?? :/"—

old snape headcanons that i found while looking for something else:

Boggart: His father, stinking like the bottom of a bottle of whiskey, with rage in his eyes and ready to take a swing. No, you do not get to know about this.

If anyone dares to ask him about it, though, Severus's boggart is a werewolf. Not out of any personal experience, of course (don't let's be silly). He's just terrified of them in general… because well, they're beasts, they are in fact horrifying beasts, and because they symbolize a man's complete loss of control over himself, and… yes. That. And nothing else, only.

Patronus: A doe, the same as Lily Evans' Potter's. No, you do not get to know about this, either. As far as you're concerned, Severus's Patronus is a goddamn fucking basilisk, and it is very large and magnificent and terrifying and impressive and phallic.

Mirror of Erised: Himself, happily married to Lily, with optional skinny, dark-haired, green-eyed offspring; sometimes, he's not even there, it's just Lily, smiling and being herself.

You DEFINITELY do not get to know about this, EVER, no matter how much Severus tolerates you. You also do not get to know about how, if he ever got to see the real Mirror of Erised, Severus would absolutely turn into one of Dumbledore's horror stories about, "Men [who] have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible" (PS/SS, 213; US edition).

In fact, why do you think you deserve to know anything so intimate about Severus Tobias Snape, ever. He doesn't like you. Go away. :|

If you are ever foolish and/or brave enough to ask, Severus's greatest desire is to usurp Dumbledore's, Grindelwald's, and Voldemort's spots as the most powerful and accomplished wizard of the twentieth century, a master of the Dark Arts, various forbidden techniques, and magic people overlook. …Also, of potions. He's worked for long enough and hard enough on his fucking potions mastery and on doing slightly ill-advised independent research to further it, so he might as well just get the damn thing and call it good.

And he would be feared and respected. People would be in awe of him and he would never ever need anybody to love him ever again because their awe is all that he would ever need. …and maybe he'd be Headmaster of Hogwarts, too. Just for good measure, because he has no desire to get power and respect through politics.

(Honestly, he really doesn't want to be a teacher, either. Just Headmaster. He couldn't care less about teaching, mostly on the grounds that he finds children insufferable, barring a handful of exceptions; literally the only benefit to being a professor is actually getting funding for his research instead of having to pick between research and food.

…But he wants to be Headmaster. He wants that supreme power over the school and a chance to sit up in that office for reasons other than, "Got dragged there to be given a lecture about how he wasn't allowed to tell anyone what had happened at the Shrieking Shack or what he'd seen or that Remus Lupin is a werewolf or any of it, because clearly all of this is sooooo much more important than how Lupin, Black, and Potter all tried to fucking kill him, and only didn't manage it because Potter got cold feet.")

The fact that he'd actually see Lily in the Mirror of Erised doesn't make this whole escapist power fantasy any less of a presence on his Things To Accomplish Before I Die list… He's just more emotionally invested in wanting a woman he can never have (thanks to his own fuck ups, which he realizes but has handled with approximately the emotional maturity of a moldy toothbrush). Moreover, he's emotionally invested in having this unattainable fantasy life where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts and Lily is exactly how he imagines her to be, which…

well, his mental image of Lily is close to reality? …ish? ……but ultimately, it's a lot more in line with Dante's depictions of Beatrice in his Commedia or Cadmus Peverell's notion to use the Resurrection Stone to bring his beloved back to life than with, y'know, actually acknowledging the whole of Lily as a person and loving and respecting Lily herself.

…mind you, Severus would tell you that he loves Lily as a person in her own right and that he does love Lily herself, but this is a mix of deliberate self-delusion and Severus really just not getting the difference between what he does and love (in large part, you can thank Tobias and Eileen for this).

What he actually does with Lily is love the parts of her that suit his emotional needs, ignore the parts that don't and/or blame them on James Potter (or one of Lily's Gryffindor friends if he really can't make James work), idealize her and totally, utterly failing to get that this is just another way of dehumanizing and objectifying her, and long after her in a really creepy fashion where he refuses to move on for a laundry list of reasons,

all of which mostly boil down to, "……what? …did you seriously think that Severus Tobias Snape was any kind of emotionally healthy? …excuse me, I'm not laughing AT you, but that's just about the BEST JOKE I HAVE HEARD ALL WEEK, thank you for that omg."

all up and TL;DR: Severus thinks he loves Lily. Severus, however, is wrong. Unfortunately for everyone, he is going to realize that he is wrong approximately never, because Severus has a broken as fuck perspective here and basically no capacity for examining his feelings from an outside point of view (and even if he did realize that, he'd probably never admit it because he's petulant about being proven wrong like that).

In the nicest of all possible terms, Severus is obsessively in love with the idea of Lily, taken with the idea of what his life would be like if she loved him, and enamored with what Lily symbolizes to him — which is, put briefly: a reason to hope that he isn't the little monster that Tobias always said he was, a freak and a monster who deserves to suffer for being born because he has magic in him and because Eileen neglected to mention that part; a reason to hope that the world isn't just a mess of pointless pain and isolation and suffering, that there are good things in it too; and a reason to feel like maybe everything isn't just hopeless bullshit.

……which is all very nice and stuff for Severus. …except for that part where, y'know, Lily is still a person in her own right and not his Beatrice or his magical perfect Dulcinea, coming down from the Heavens to make his entire life suck less by being in it, and Severus honestly doesn't see the difference between recognizing that and what he does.

And either way, he will never, ever, EVER admit any this to you so don't even bother asking.

……Go away. You're dismissed. Severus doesn't like you, stop asking him stupid questions and make your exit already. Go away. :|
