Poultry Day is celebrated on March 19th of each year.

Poultry is a category of domesticated birds kept by humans for the purpose of collecting their eggs, or killing for their meat and/or feathers. These most typically are members of the superorder Galloanserae (fowl), especially the order Galliformes (which includes chickens, quails and turkeys) and the family Anatidae (in order Anseriformes), commonly known as “waterfowl” (e.g. domestic ducks and domestic geese). Poultry also includes other birds which are killed for their meat, such as pigeons or doves or birds considered to be game, such as pheasants. Poultry comes from the French/Norman word poule, itself derived from the Latin word pullus, which means small animal.

Oh yes, it’s a fowl, fowl day – Poultry Day, that is! Celebrate this whole range of domestic feathered friends that are raised for their meat and eggs by thinking about just how boring Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays would be without the addition of a turkey, chicken, duck, goose or pheasant to the table!

What's that fowl smell? Oh wait, it's Poultry Day! That explains it. The Song Dynasty in China (I was going to type France) came to an end in 1279 thanks to the Mongols. The common folk were pleased. They were tired (but fit) from all the dynasty's forced musicals. Louis Riel kicked off the North-West Rebellion in 1885 by deciding that Saskatchewan needed its own government. He's either a folk hero or a scummy rebel depending on which part of Canada you're from. Nevada legalised gambling in 1931. The rest, as they say, is your money paying for even bigger casinos because the house always wins. Wyatt Earp was born in 1848. He is most famous for being a marshall in Tombstone and taking part in the gunfight at the OK (eh, it's alright... Wait.) Corral. Ursula Andress was born in 1936. She is best known for her appearance as the Bond girl Honey Ryder. Glenn Close, who I best remember as starring in 101 Dalmatians, was born in 1947. She's also going to be in Guardians of the Galaxy (with Rocket Raccoon. This is fortuitous as I wanted to mention Rocket Raccoon today anyway). Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Live Free or Die Hard, and A Good Day to Die Hard star Bruce Willis was born in 1955. Abby Brammell was born in 1979. She played Tiffy on The Unit, which is excellent TV. The flower of the day is Rocket Raccoon eating a pie.
