Twinkle X Blue bird chicks!

Recessive White Silkie x Dom White Leghorn hen- will produce pullets that inherit their fathers dark skin while the boys will have lighter skin due to dermal melanin inhibitors inherited from mom so.....2 boys and 2 girls 🙂

I’ll only be keeping 1 girl when they are older so the other pullet and two boys will be available

These are Twinkle x Blue (and Greenie probably) babies 🙂 currently being raised by my Serama Princess Cream!

Personally this little girl next to her very opinionated brother Cosmo (now named Nebula) is my favorite she is quiet and snuggly :)

If Scoot ever passes away I’m going to do a very thorough necropsy.

I think it’s what I should do especially if they pass due to a metabolic issues associated with the FM gene. Someone suggested that their rough start in life and feathering may be pointing to something like that.

It’s strange some fm birds seem like normal adverage chickens then others are a lot more sickly and weak. This goes for all fibro birds including silkies (though tbh I don’t see it in silkies often)

If we could find out what causes the sicklyness then people can breed away from it, it’s obviously not like the Merle gene in dogs because double fibro birds can be perfectly healthy and no different then their single fibro relatives

I’m going to tag @feathers-scales-and-tails since they have some fibro birds themselves

What the heck is happening with Scoot’s Feathers?

@the-crowing-king​ you may know then I do about this but what do you think is happening with Scoots feathers here? They are extremely soft like a silkie??? But Scoot can fly just fine and the feathers are strong and not prone to breaking like a frizzle

Learning about poultry genetics is wild like i found out recently the lacing for Wyandottes and the lacing for Polish and Seabrights are like two separate things and i was like :O The Genetic name for Silver Laced like for the Wyandotte and Cochin is Laced Columbian Silver Brown The Genetic name for Silver Laced for the Seabright and Polish is Laced Ginger Silver Birchen

Take notice of the polish and seabright’s legs compared to the wyandotte and also compare the lacing of the tail feathers. With pet quality wyandottes alot of  the time they wont even have lacing on their tail at all!

I'm making a new sideblog!

This will cover my bird illustrations and if there is enough interest, I might start to cover topics on genetics!

I know a lot about chicken, pigeon, goose, and turkey genomes but I don't know if there is any interest on Tumblr, but I figure a proper place for all my bird content is a start.
