Moon 8.5
Unknown
You are alone. There’s darkness around you and under your paws. You stretch your toes. It still feels like the stone floor you fell asleep on.
You decide to walk. There has to be some end to this darkness, you rationalize.
You walk, placing each pale pay in front of the other. The darkness seeps into your pelt. There’s little your fur can do to keep it out. You walk faster.
If you can just make it out. You just want to get out.
“Is that what you really want?”
There is a cat you have never seen before in front of you. They’re not much older than you. They have a warm, orange face speckled by white. Their eyes are a faded green. They have no mouth.
“Do you want to escape?” they ask again, their face unmoving.
You go to nod your head but you stop. You want to go home, to leave this place. But that’s not what you really want. You want to be safe, warm. You want to be happy.
The cat in front of you studies you for a moment. Then they lean forward. They press their nose into your body.
You feel lighter than air. The darkness is still there, but you are full, and you are warm. You curl up.
“Sleep now.” They comfort you. “I’ll be back again soon.”
