Febuwhump 2022 Day 2- Failed Rescue Attempt

Takes place 3 months after Micah's platoon is captured

Dear General Grosskopf,

As a gesture of goodwill between our countries, we are prepared to conduct a prisoner exchange. Currently, we have two hundred and twenty six Lucian soldiers in custody. According to our records, you are holding seventy eight Torin soldiers as prisoners of war, including:

Squadron 21-2 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Allan Enright

Platoon 17-4 under the command of Lieutenant Micah Byrnes

Platoon 43-3 under the command of Lieutenant Juddson Rutherford

We are willing to return to you half of your soldiers, numbering one hundred and thirteen, in exchange for the return of all of our men. Our men will not be redeployed, but rather will be honorably discharged and sent home to their families. The remaining soldiers in our custody will be returned at the close of hostilities between our two countries. If these terms are acceptable, we will coordinate a time and place to parley.

After careful consideration of your terms, we have decided to make a counter offer. We will return thirty nine of your soldiers in exchange for one hundred and thirteen of our soldiers. The men returned to you will include

The entire Squadron 21-2, numbering 33 men, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Allan Enright

Six men from Platoon 17-4 under the command of Lieutenant Micah Byrnes.

The return of the remainder of your soldiers will be discussed at the end of the current conflict.

Stitched Together

Dear Soldier....

 Shit Cassidy, you are the soldier. Not Emma. Well, not legally. She's soldiering through this long distance thing like a trooper. But she's not enlisted. Why did you call her that? He berated he was tired. He was hot. And he was hungry. It led to him writing silly things.

Yeah, babe, I just called you a solider. :D guess I didn't have enough coffee this morning before patrol. Haha. You might not be enlisted, but you sure are a trooper. This long distance stuff must be so damn hard. I know it is for me even though we've never met. Sometimes, I swear we've known each other since Kindergarten. I dreamed about us meeting on the swings during recess. You see me crying 'cause a kid pushed me over and I skinned my knee. You put gum in the boys hair. Then someone on the loud speaker woke me up.

Neal smiled as he thought about the dream. It had been a wonderful sleep. Anytime Emma entered his dreams it seemed like he had a good night's rest.

Listen, I gotta go on an afternoon patrol. I'm coming home real soon - in two weeks time. If you want, we could go get a coffee and a bite to eat. Have a real first date, ya know? We don't have to though. Just let me know.

The two weeks passed since that letter and then a third. Between the time it got sent out and current time, Neal and his platoon were ambushed. Over half the fifteen were killed on battlefield. The rest, including Neal, were captured and interrogated. For a grueling week and a half, they tried and failed to get information out of him. These men would have continued their sessions if the U.S. Special OPs hadn't arrived. 

 After a hasty stabilization, they airlifted Neal to a US military hospital were he had several surgeries to repair his left leg and skull. Loopy from pain medicine, he found himself feeling like Frankenstein's monster what with countless stitches to sew up various cuts too large for bandaids or butterflies, the plates and bolts in his leg, and the eyepatch covering an eye. Even though his ears still rung from the months of nonstop shots fired, he heard hurried footsteps. "Hello? Everything okay?" He asked, shifting and trying to keep his IV in place.

Plot 103: Out of Body (inspired by: fix-meim-brokenxx)

Muse A has the power of projection--the ability to leave their physical body behind for a time and travel elsewhere. Muse A is corporeal in their projected state, able to interact with others and engage all of their senses, but they are always bound by the limitations of their dormant body's stamina. Each time Muse A projects out of their body, it takes a toll on them physically. If they only project for a few minutes, the toll is hardly noticeable. However, the longer they remain away from their physical body, the weaker it becomes and the less time it is able to sustain another projection.   

Option A) Muse A is physically disabled/chronically ill with a condition that leaves them unable to travel far from their home. When they project into the world, they can experience life as an able-bodied, healthy person for the first time in years (or ever). They utilize the opportunity to experience all they are missing out on as much as they can, despite the toll it takes on their already poor health. Muse A meets Muse B while projecting one day and finds great comfort/interest in them. Over time, Muse A focuses on projecting simply so that they can meet up with Muse B more and more, eventually establishing a relationship. Muse A's need for a sense of normalcy keeps them from telling Muse B the truth, until that day when Muse A is too weak to hold their projected form and they 'disappear' right before Muse B's eyes..   

Option B) Muse A is being held captive as a prisoner of war with no means nor hopes of escaping to safety. When they're not faced with unspeakable tortures at the hands of captors, they are left in abject isolation--enough to drive a sane person to desperation. Muse A uses their projection power in order to escape their bleak circumstances, if only for a few hours. Muse A projects themselves across the world one afternoon, after their captors have gone, and encounters Muse B. Though they have little time together, Muse B quickly becomes a bright spot away from Muse A's horrible reality. Gradually, Muse A begins to hope that Muse B can help them be rescued..
