Valentina found herself on a chair in a room she had never been in before in the institute, her head cocked to the side, and tried to sort her mind. She held a cup of tea in her hands and the porcelain filled the air with little sounds while it trembled against the saucer. She wasn’t as fearful as she had been before, when she had been sitting outside, before she had- used her powers, and now the fear that had filled up her mind was mostly replaced by the crippling feeling of guilt. Her eyes were locked to the liquid moving from side to side, but she knew that Amanda’s eyes laid on her. She had been right. It hadn’t been a cat she scared, at least not completely – she didn’t think that an animal’s mind could adapt to her ability like that. Absorb it and make her feel empowered like that, anyway.

The brunette shifted in her seat; it was kind of pointless to try and hide her shaky hands by now; the woman had seen it all. Still, it made the girl uncomfortable; she felt so vulnerable, so weak, when it only took a blink of her eyes to make people unable to think straight. She cleared her throat. “I didn’t mean to- do that to you earlier.” It was all she could bring out for the moment, but she felt like she needed to explain herself somehow. “I can’t control that, you know.” Valentina bit her lip, not daring to move her eyes an inch from the cup she held.
