   Everything had turned upside down the moment Henrik had laid out the proposal for her to marry him instead. He’d wanted his brother to have a chance at happiness and so had she. It was a decent compromise and in the end, she’d agreed. Together they could run the institute and everyone would be better off. It was the best decision, it had to be.

   It was the day after the wedding and Lydia lay in her bed, still contemplating everything that had happened. They had both agreed that they didn't have to consummate their marriage yet, while they should, neither were ready for it. Lydia was still heartbroken over John and she wasn't ready to give herself over to someone like that yet, certainly not for a loveless marriage, even though she had agreed to it. Henrik was lovely though, she knew that it wouldn't take much to fall for him, though she didn't want any of this to be one sided.

   Today they were to go spend the day together. They had decided against a honeymoon since there was a lot going on right now. It had been Alec who had insisted on them at least spending the day together and she had agreed that it might be good for them. Lydia got up, deciding that she could get her day started. She showered and dressed, choosing a light yellow dress and some flats. On her way out of her room, she grabbed a jacket just in case and went to go knock on Henrik's door. She was his wife now, bracelet on her arm and the rune mark proved that, but she still wanted to give him his privacy, so she knocked on the door and called through it, "Henrik, it's me." She'd wait until she was given permission to enter.

I'm not asking this on anon, and it doesn't have to be connected to my portrayal of him or anything, since my Henrik is alive. How close was Kol to Henrik when the youngest Mikaelson was alive?

headcanons AHHHHH

Not gonna lie, I don’t have a whole lot of Henrik in my metas about Kol’s characterization. This is mostly because, before they were turned, I headcanon Kol not spending a lot of time with any of his siblings for a number of reasons, but the biggest one being that he was learning magic and they weren’t, so he was simply going off in a different direction. 

Now, Kol was a HUGE middle child, and not in the “well adjusted kid” sort of way. There’s definitely no small amount of resentment being carried by Kol, even if it’s not willful or malicious. I don’t actually think that they would have been very close at all? I don’t think Kol DISLIKED Henrik at all, but I don’t headcanon them as being the very best of friends or anything like that. When Henrik died, Kol was upset. He was angry that Nik had let a KID go out to see the wolf men. After they were turned, it was another reason to resent Henrik. Not only was he the baby of the family, but his death had in direct effect pulled Kol from magic.
