26. do you make a list before going to the grocery store or just wing it?

i used to wing it, mostly because i just bought the same 5 things (milk, cereal, miniature cans of ginger ale, chips, cheese) over and over again lol. now that i am cooking, i tend to add things i need to a list in the kroger app and go from there. i have also learned to take a photo of a recipe's ingredients list because i have no ability to conceptualize amounts so i get to the store and panic.

5. what’s your favourite piece of furniture and where did you get it?

my grandmother's red chair :). i claimed it from her house when she moved into an assisted living place, and since then i have taken it all over with me. it's a beautiful red velvet armchair with a deep curved back. she had it in her living room, and i always thought it looked like a throne. it's in my bedroom and full of junk currently, but i have plans for it. here it is in my house in west virginia, where vista claimed it in our first year together.

Hello! I know you love to compose backstories and characterizations for one-off characters -- do you have anything to share about these two neat-looking individuals in the latest update?

I haven't given them names, but here's what I do have:

He's in his late 50s, she's in her late 40s or early 50s

She's a veteran chaser; he's been at it about 5-10 years but they've been teamed up for a while

He gets reckless sometimes, too enthused for the storm and less concern for safety (cf. his reaction here)

she’s mellow and logical, chases with her eyes, kind of old school

he’s gung ho and tech savvy, relies a little too much on screens, but they balance each other out this way

platonic buds, kind of a combo team/sibling like relationship

it’s always fun designing characters who only show up for a few pages—i can add more detail than usual :D

currently I'm rereading all of skip beat and when I'm done I'm gonna reread all of detective conan. do you have a rec for a site with good scanlations as opposed to the official T/L? really walking a tightrope between localizations/bowlderizations and legibility here

you asked the right person, lol! I've been a Detective Conan fan for about 20 years, since the Knightus Linker days. I don't follow it anywhere near as closely as I used to, but I still check on it from time to time

MangaDex is my go-to site for scanlations of unlicensed series, and it looks like most (if not all) of DC's chapters are on there. there's 1100+ chapters though, so I'm unsure whether *all* of them are up. XD;; BUT, from the looks of it, a scanlation group called Korn Scans completely re-scanned and re-translated the first 94 volumes (and thank God, the old scans' quality varied sooooo so wildly, the worst of 'em weren't JJBA/Duwang bad, but close)

FWIW I think the official Viz translation is pretty faithful, aside from the main characters' Westernized names from the early 2000s Funimation dub. it keeps all of the original Japanese language/cultural clues and references intact (unlike the dub, which tried to adapt all the wordplay and whatnot into English with...extremely mixed results). I think the overall quality control was kinda average for the first ~17-18 volumes, but the quality improved dramatically afterwards. plus Viz did eventually start retaining the Japanese names for any characters introduced, most notably for the Tokyo Metropolitan police detectives aside from Megure

but if you're strapped for cash and the Westernized names are a deal breaker, the redone scans are a great starting point for a re-read!
