After being sure it existed but unable to find it for ages, I finally tracked down the short story about Typhon on Zaramund, "Exocytosis." I can't believe it isn't linked on either Typhus' or Zaramund's page in the lex but here we are.
Anyway this is the story about the point when Typhon comes to understand the warp presence that has been at the edges of his existence basically forever, and that's trying to stake a claim on him. It's the story where he accepts that and becomes actively invested in spreading it. And it's ALSO, i think now, the story that explains why Typhus on the tabletop can lead units of poxwalkers (disposable super low-power zombies) in addition to units of Terminator-armored plague marines (much more like him in power, movement, etc). The pilgrims who meet with him are people to him, sickly and strange but living and capable of communication, while to the Dark Angel who witnesses them, they're rotting corpses that somehow move. I wonder if that's a thing that continues, if he sees them that way while people without the Grandfather's grace can't see the life within death. (See also Dantine interacting with the Lords of Silence vs the horror the imperials of Sabatine have for him.) Fascinating to consider!
The story does NOT contain his first conscious and personal encounter with the Grandfather, which makes me pretty certain that it wasn't written out in the canon. And I think it'd be really neat to see.
Lots of good stuff in there though.
I managed to convince a friend to try Warhammer for the first time yesterday. She was looking at the death guard for a long time but finally settled for a box of Poxwalkers.
I did not expect her to fall so hard for Nurgle, but I'm happy she did.
I mean it does make sense, she used to work in healthcare for years :D
I have to say the introduction she got in the store was fantastic. We built a mini of the month, then we painted an introductory model (I got to paint one too, to keep her company. It was my first Stormcast model 😱)
And then she got signed up for Battle Honours. Joining the hobby is so much less confusing than when I started 😂
Week #68: SPEARHEAD! And Zombies?
So, despite the models not being complete we finally got everything we needed for Spearhead. So my wife and I played our first game together. It was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the short format and the fact that you don't really use command points, instead each card has a command ability on it. As a gateway into the game proper this is a fantastic way to introduce it to new players. We played a little in 3rd Edition so we already had a good grasp on the game, but we both agree that Spearhead was a ton of fun.
However, my wife did win in the end. I didn't really stand a chance with the plays that I made. To be fair though, she was rolling insanely well, while I on the other hand was not. Out of 25 attacks that my Blightkings threw at her three Kroxigor only three wounds actually made it through when all was said and done. She then immediately killed two Blightkings on the crackback. I'm gonna have to rethink my strategy when dealing with her stuff. Especially her Carnosaur, that thing is a menace.
Aside from that I have 30 Poxwalkers I would like to knock out this week if possible. I'm gonna be fairly busy throughout this week so let's see how much I can actually get done. I don't think it'll be easy in the end though.
I may also finish that Custodian Guard Kill Team I painted for my wife a long while ago. I never actually fully finished them when I painted them originally. I think it would be worth the effort doing that.
Painted a poxwalker on stream, here's a couple of the final images, at least until I unpack my good camera gear.
(If you've seen this before, it's because I posted it to the wrong blog. I'm fixing that)
Day 10: I feel like I did nothing, but a lot of models had work done on them
I primed and drybrushed my poxwalker hoard and my traitor guard hoard (yesterdays spoils plus some cultists I had languishing with vashtorr) It doesn't feel like much, but thats 40ish models that each got two layers of paint. I also got some more airbrush experience. I hadn't touched that thing since I painted up my blood ravens chapter master mid 2023.
I also threw magnets on my mainstay plague marines for easier transport. My stinky force (death guard with traitor guard proxying where i can get away with) will be traveling with me while I'm out of the house.
In the next couple of days there will he a small temporary change of scenery.
If I cast Awaken the Blood Avatar from a place that is not my hand, sacrificing Poxwalker as one of the creatures for its additional casting cost, does the Poxwalker immediately go back to the battlefield when Awaken is cast as it died in the process of paying the cost which is before the spell is considered cast?
Yes, this works.
A spell isn't considered to be cast until the whole casting process is complete. The casting process includes paying the costs of the spell, which can include sacrificing creatures in the case of Awaken the Blood Avatar. Therefore, a Poxwalkers sacrificed to reduce the cost of the spell will have its return ability trigger as long as AtBA was cast from somewhere other than your hand.
Long Knife Lewis here is really pleased that someone complimented his shoulder arm.
Big Knife Joe hates him because he feels like Lewis is copying his schtick and it makes him feel insecure. Not only that but Lewis has more worms than Joe in his worm fanny pack.
