Although homemade masks are nowhere NEAR as effective as medical grade masks, they are better than nothing. They can help give you a little peace of mind when you go out to the supermarket, and they can be an opportunity to add some fun and brightness to these scary times while you make an effort to protect yourself and others. I made mine with a fat quarter of quilting fabric, folded in thirds lengthways and then in thirds widthways, and attached with hair ties. I wore my hair back, and pinned the hair ties to the sides of my head to keep the mask from slipping. Make sure the mask fits nice and snugly before you leave the house, otherwise you'll end up touching your face as you adjust it! When I get home, I put the masks in a separate laundry bag, and I clean the hair ties and bobby pins as I wash my hands. Frontline medical staff do not currently have adequate Personal Protective Equipment to keep themselves and others as safe as possible as they treat patients with COVID-19.
