Family/Holiday Dinner/Get-togethers
I miss everyone getting together on holidays for dinner. We haven't gotten together in maybe 4 or 5 years. The last time was for Easter. Easter is tomorrow. We (as in my household) doesn't even have our own dinner plans for once. Are holiday dinners going to disappear forever? Even the ones just for us (our household lol)?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Jenibus! SAY IT AINT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
When I grow up [pretending I'm not already 24], I'm gonna cook every holiday and invite family and friends over and it's gonna be AWESOME.
Might have to work on my meat-cooking technique though. First try was lamb - that turned out awesomely last Christmas. Next try (and last) was oxtails, or maybe it was neckbones? I dunno. But let's just say.... we probably might have gotten a smidgen of food poisoning if I didn't keep pestering my mom to come check on it when I thought I was done.
The meat was supposed to cook for 6 hours and my mom was wondering how I was done in about 3 or 4. I also made a shitload of brown rice because, due to my stupidity inexperience, I didn't realize it would swell up. I had a lottt of water in the pot and put in some rice. Then I decided "Oh. Too much water... can't dump it out now! There's rice in it! ADD MORE RICE!!" When that was done, the pot was basically overflowing with rice. It was a pretty huge pot. Had rice-leftovers for 3 days. Not that we actually ate it after the first day.
Back to the meat-er at hand... (get it? meat-er? matter? I slay me.)
I didn't add enough water to thaaat pot so the ones at the stop were kinda gray-ish but were still cooked. Just needed to cook them for another... hour. *shifty eyes*
My mom said "wow, glad you forced me to come check!" to which I responded (something like, not exactly) "Well.... that's what you get when Shannon cooks! Turn the fire WAY up, get that shit done, son!" Then she said "...you're supposed to cook these on low heat." Then I said "Well.... now we've got dinner an hour earlier than we would have had it if you did it. YOU'RE WELCOME."
Everyone ate and enjoyed it. I also made broccoli. I put some broccoli in the rice and left some on it's own for my brother and his carb-phobic tendencies. My mom was surprised that I put broccoli in the rice. I got skillz. That was a gooooood day.
The lamb chops I made for Christmas were even better since I cooked them properly on my own and they were DELICIOUS... except for the fact that I realized I do not like lamb.
Promise me, and Jenibus, and maybe Bertbert, the only people who might read this, that you will learn to cook meat more betterer. Then you can have awesome holiday get togethers in your house down the street from the house you live in now. With your parents. Kay? KAY.
