I. Deepa Venkat New Delhi: January 20, 2020 Smt. I. Deepa Venkat, Managing Trustee of Swarna Bharat Trust, Nellore, was presented the Champions of Change Award 2019 for outstanding contributions to Social Welfare, by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the Hon’ble former President of India, at his official residence in New Delhi today. Later in the day, a formal function was held to felicitate the award winners in which Shri Nithin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India took part. Smt. I Deepa Venkat, a business person and philanthropist is also the daughter of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. The Champions of Change Awards has been instituted by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy (IFIE), a Govt. of India recognized non-for-profit company. The Award is aimed at honouring those who have been working for social welfare in Aspirational Districts, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and for the unity of India, inspired by the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. The Awards have been instituted in categories of Social Welfare, Culture, Education, Health Care, Swachh Bharat and Special Contribution in Aspirational Districts and National Unity. The winners were chosen by a jury headed by former Chief Justice of India and former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission, Shri K.G Balakrishnan, through a rigorous selection process. The Swarna Bharat Trust was established in Venkatachalam, Nellore in 2001 with the mission of improving the conditions of living of the rural masses by providing education, vocational training and health care, thereby enabling them to employ themselves gainfully. The teachings of luminaries like Mahatma Gandhi and Nanaji Deshmukh have been guiding lights to the Trust since its establishment.
