Story time. @amazingstuckylibrary was asked what was the first Stucky fic they read. I saw this and thought that since I've only been on the Stucky bandwagon for 18 months or so, it'd be easy to go through my AO3 history and find out what my first fic was.
So.
This is not my first fic. My first Marvel story was some kind of Spiderman whump, and I've no idea how I got there. My second Marvel fic was an explicit Steve/Tony/Bucky and I REALLY don't know how I got there (although I vividly remember my first ever fanfic I read was a Snape/Harry fic where everyone cried a lot. It contained the phrase 'greasy little lover'. I hadn't searched for it, didn't realise it was Snarry until I'd got somewhat interested in the plot, and didn't read fanfic again for Quite Some Time).
Anyway. My third Marvel fanfic was Mistake on the Part of Nature, and I don't know if I just searched for the most popular Stucky fic on AO3 or if I started at the top of a rec list somewhere.
But my FOURTH Marvel fanfic was this one (by the same author). I'd forgotten reading this fic, but I just reread it and I think is a pretty perfect first foray into the world of fandom Stucky.

Hot on its heels, I discovered the newbie starting point list on the Stucky Library, and read 4 Minute Window and despite the threatening sky and shuddering earth (they remained) and a lot of other amazing stories which made me fall in love with this ship.
This fic by @praximeter has made me take a look back at what the But I knew him scene could've been like had Bucky been unable to remove the mask. I did this after reading the whole fic in one night. It's gorgeous and heartbreaking, go read it.
Don’t underestimate the importance of body language! Below are my Top 5 Favorite stories:

Summary: “They really didn’t want the mask to come off.” Hill thumbed through the scans, and pulled out a film that she then handed over to Sam, face mostly expressionless but for the flat line of her pursed lips.
Sam accepted the film and held it up to the light, angling so both he and Steve could see it, squinting at the outline of the Winter Soldier’s skull, and the blips of unnatural white that showed up, God, in his brain, not to mention about half his teeth, plus the mask, with its thin protrusions—
“Those are pins,” Steve realized. He looked over at Hill. “The mask—it’s nailed to his face.”
Hill’s face was as unmoved as ever. “Like I said. They really didn’t want it coming off.”
What is The Night War?
Oh it’s an awesome fic by @praximeter that is in the form of Bucky’s wartime diary entries, which, in the world of the fic, later get published and achieve great recognition. The fic is extremely well researched and heart wrenchingly emotional.
