Yesterday, kid number two and I spent a little time at the 116th Street Festival. This event is in Spanish Harlem, which at one time was home to one of the largest communities of Puerto Ricans, outside the island itself. Today will be the Puerto Rican Day Parade, the largest cultural parade in the country. I want to go, but I'm hesitant. It's crowded (upwards of a million people attend) and the police presence is overwhelming. I'm also still upset and saddened by how those affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria are still suffering. I don't know... we'll see if I go or not. Regardless, I hope those that attend have a great time, and stay safe.
In the meantime, I would ask that you spread the word about Puerto Rico. Please listen to those directly affected. Along with awareness, donations are needed. There are a number of organizations pitching in. Along with awareness and donations, please demand that your elected officials not forget about Puerto Rico. Call/Write/Email/Visit them and have them commit to action.
Alright, I'm done for now. Have a good weekend, everyone. Be compassionate whenever and wherever you can.
