Coconut oil and honey pre-poo wash day results. I still have hair. And I think it liked it. It feels soft and moisturized and when it was wet I noticed it was clumping well with less wet frizz than usual. I still will not be doing the honey thing again. As I was applying the oil/honey mixture, it occurred to me that if there was a way to homogenize it, it’d probably work really well. Probably somebody, somewhere has done that. I’m not about to go out and buy special oil blends for this, though. Coconut oil costs me $3 at Dollar General. I’m not spending more than that.
Eh. Live and learn.
One thing I have been doing that does work is using Jamaican black castor oil to massage my scalp before shampooing. I learned about it from Ayesha Malik on YouTube. She’s a Pakistani-American woman with the most amazingly beautiful curly hair I’ve ever seen. She started using JBCO several years ago when she was getting a big receding patch near her hairline. It was the only thing that worked to regrow her hair.
I don’t have bald patches, but when I started the Curly Girl Method I was horrified by how much hair I lost each time I washed. It was handfuls. Before that, when I was straightening my hair every day, I was pulling on it with a round brush and would lose a little each day, and a normal amount when I would wash. But since the proper care of curly hair entails NO brushing ever and only detangling when it’s wet and full of conditioner, with the CGM I wouldn’t shed any on a daily basis and instead it would all wait for wash day. I have very thick hair, so it wasn’t noticeable, but it was freaky!
So I started massaging JBCO into my scalp on wash day before shampooing. It’s super thick, like the consistency of molasses. And it’s stinky. I don’t know what others would liken the scent to but it puts me in mind of stale cigarettes. Apparently there are people who do daily scalp massages with it. I don’t know how. When I’m done it’s obvious there is oil in my hair. But anyway.
I wash every 4-6 days now, and lose only 2 days worth of hair each time. I’ve got tons of little baby hairs in the front now. And it’s growing eyebrows for me where I have had none. The inner corners of my eyebrows (nearest my nose) don’t grow for some reason. I suspect a subclinical hypothyroid situation but my tests are always in the low normal range so doctors don’t care.
Anyway. JBCO. It regrows hair. F’realz.
