summer update: work!
Today was something of a sad day - I had my last shift at work since I leave in less than a week!
I work in a local bakery as a barista and crew member - unfortunately, I don't bake any of the things there, though I do bake at home on my own time! I worked usually between 8 and 20 hours a week during the school year, and have been doing more during the summer, since I don’t have to balance it with school!
I’ve met a lot of wonderful people there, both coworkers and regulars, and learned a GREAT DEAL about time management - plus having a paycheck is important. The workers are like family, presided over by Linda, the owner’s mom (who also brings us food a lot of the time). While working there, I’ve also gained transferable skills like being good at customer service, multitasking, and knowing how to make espresso drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.

However, everything I've learned and all the people I've met will stay with me even after I leave - and my boss said I can work in a few shifts when I'm home on breaks! Leaving work makes college feel a lot more concrete and immediate, since it’s been a constant in my life for a very long time.
