So it has been a crazy couple weeks in Hotel Uterus. Where do I begin? Not even out in the world and already so dramatic like his daddy (love you hunny).
Last Tuesday I was hospitalized for pre-term labor. The whole weekend I thought I was having Braxton Hicks contractions and they were the real deal. News Flash to those like me who didn't know, Braxton Hicks contractions DO NOT HURT. If you are having menstrual like cramping and lower back pain that was not already a normal symptom of your pregnancy...let me introduce you to labor. I was so surprised when I found out my contractions were 3 minutes apart. Well, honestly I was surprised they were even contractions. Luckily I wasn't dilated at all, so they monitored me for about 5 hours and injected me with Tributaline, and gave me an oral medication called Nifedipine to slow down and hopefully stop the contractions completely. It was such a crazy feeling to walk out of the hospital after being in labor only hours before. I was discharged with no restrictions or medication, but was told if I came back again I would take the Nifedipine daily and depending on if I was dilated...be put on bed rest.
LUCKILY...I haven't had any for the past few days.
I was so happy about this I went to my appointment yesterday smiling ready to share the news with my doctors only to discover my blood pressure had taken an unexpected jump. 20 points to be exact. Bummer!!! Until this appointment my blood pressure was near perfect every time. Then all of a sudden, yesterday it was 130/80. My doctors are worried with this sudden change that I am well on my way to Preeclampsia. GROOOOOOOAAAAAAANNNNNNN. Are you kidding me? I was so upset fighting back tears while one of the doctors explained that while I didn't HAVE preeclampsia currently, it was such a drastic change it was definitely something to take seriously and monitor. So now I've gone to the labs to have my blood and urine tested and will now be going weekly to my appointments hoping my blood pressure can remain at the ALMOST point at least for another 3 weeks. Once I'm 37 weeks, if my blood pressure goes above 140, they'll induce labor and we'll welcome baby Haupt a little early...but definitely safe and sound. Keep your fingers crossed, prayers often and hopes high that we hear some good news next week when they reveal my results and test my blood pressure again. KEEP YOU POSTED!
