Perché ci si affida al solitario in genere? Perché è un classico... E quindi? Quindi se prestiamo un po' di attenzione, la storia, i giornali, il cinema ci insegnano che delle alternative interessanti ci sono sempre. Ad esempio la cosiddetta pietra col contorno, solitamente di forma ovale o a smeraldo con un contorno di diamanti tagliati a brillante; smeraldi, zaffiri per ragazze più "sportive"; rubini, acquamarine, opali cabochon (attenzione sono delicati) per ragazze da un gusto più classico o retrò.
