Dental School 1
I did a three hour observation of a third year in the resto clinic today and assisted at the same time. It was fun except for the screaming back pain I got every time I hovered over the patient with the high speed suction. The sensation was even worse than the back pain I get from leaning over when drilling in preclinic. On that note, today I also tried out the cheapy (relatively) loupes I bought to solve the issue of back pain. About half an hour in I got fustrated and took them off. I find I am still leaning forward and the magnification didn't really do anything for me. My preclinic buddy says they make a bigger difference for indirect vision so I'll give them another go if we've got any of those. I guess they will take getting used to especially for judging depth and things. The decreased field of view also made me a bit confused and I have enough trouble already, remembering what I'm supposed to be doing. Anyway back to clinic, the DA chairs do have front arm rests but I find I sit too far forward to use them? Maybe it's my own problem. ):
The third year student I was observing was having problems with visibility because the water spray was clouding his mirror. His supervisor suggested that I use the triplex to blow the water off which I thought was pretty ingenious. Instead of stopping every few seconds to wipe his mirror, he could actually get some work done. Now I just have to figure out how to hold a mirror and triplex in one hand so I don't have the same problem in preclinic ^^. No such things as too many hands in dentistry.
Unfortunately for my student, he had an exam right after clinic and despite being on time, that would still have meant he finished exactly when his exam started. Dental school can be so stupid sometimes. The supervisor offered to finish off he work though, so that he could mentally prepare a bit before going into the exam. xD The student also said that having an exam on a day when they had clinic was stupid because it meant they were operating on patients with pretty much no sleep.
Last thing. On the bus ride home I noticed a bald person with a vein popping out around his temporal region. That led me to wonder which vein it was. I should know. Sigh. I worked out that...it's time to study anatomy again. Does anatomy eventually stick in your head? Because it seems like I learn it and then it just flies away...
