Kwei — Angst so much angst, Njohrr didn't kill him

Instead of decapitating him, Njohrr kept Kwei alive to make a spectacle of killing him in front of Dek if he ever came back.

Except when Dek did come back, he survived and Njohrr didn't. Afterwards, one of the other Yautja dragged out a malnourished, half dead Kwei and throws him at Dek's feet. Now Dek, with Thias help, has to do everything he can to keep Kwei alive.

+ Bonus points... - Dek acknowledging that if Kwei dies, he has to grieve him all over again. - Once he's healed enough, Kwei tells Thia embarrassing stories about Dek. - "You went to kill the Kalisk, wtf do you mean you adopted its baby??"

Thia/Dek — Crack, Reptile Mating Rituals

Thia wants to court Dek, but whenever she tries to (un)subtly ask him about Yautja courting rituals, Dek ignores her. Undeterred, Thia takes the next logical step: guessing. She might not know much about Yautja, but she does have a lot of data about Earth animals, and the Yautja are/look like reptiles, therefore they court similarly to reptiles.

This is clearly a foolproof plan.

Dek has no idea whats going on.

Njohrr, Kwei — Emotions are weakness

Dek isn't Njohrr's only failure. Where Dek may be small and weak, Kwei feels to much - he openly and loudly loves his brother, he's scared for his brother's safety, when Dek achieves something Kwei basically glows with parental pride. Maybe even fears Njohrr.

But the difference between Dek being small and weak, and Kwei showing to much emotion, is Njohrr can beat the emotion out of Kwei. After all emotion is weakness and Njohrr refuses to have two weak sons.

(Maybe Kwei refusing to kill Dek was his final emotional rebellion against Njohrr. He's angry scared sad proud hopeful that Dek succeeds and that he'll finally be seen and accepted properly into the clan, even if he isn't there to welcome Dek back.)

Njohrr — He wants Dek dead because he was wrong about him being a bad hunter

I have this headcanon where the reason Njohrr hates Dek and tries to get Kwei to kill him before he can become Blooded isn't just because Dek is small and weak, but because Dek is small and weak but also shows a lot of potential to become a great hunter by focusing more on strategy and cunningness than on strength. This would prove Njohrr wrong about Dek, which he can't allow.

Also, compared to previous Predator movies, Dek's fighting isn't as refined as other Yautja, which gave me a follow up headcanon that Kwei had only been training Dek for a few years before the events of Badlands.

I would love a fic that combines those ideas.

TL:DR - Kwei starts training Dek, and after only a few years, Njohrr notices that Dek - despite being small and weak - has great potential to become a great hunter once he starts focusing more on strategy and cunningness than on his strength. To avoid being proven wrong about Dek in front of the clan, Njohrr orders Dek's death.

Dek &or/ Thia — Helping

Njhorr refused to let anyone help Dek if his height hindered him. No aids (such as step stools) or letting someone else reach things for him.

Thia, on the other hand, helps without thinking. Maybe she got some something he can step on (she says it’s for Bud, but she’ll never say anything when she catches Dek using it), or if she gets something off a too tall shelf she’ll put it away on a slightly lower shelf.

It takes Dek a while to notice, but when he does, he’s (silently) grateful for her trying to make somethings just a little easier for him.

DNW: Thia grabbing things for Dek if he’s already reaching for something. (As a short person myself, it’s incredibly annoying if done without asking.)

Someone please give me snippets of Kwei raising Dek.

Dek’s first steps? Was his first word Kwei’s name? Dek’s first weapon? How did he protect Dek from their father?

Would love if a fill ended with what Kwei was thinking in the moments before he sent Dek away before, knowing he would never see his baby brother again.

Pretty much what the title says - to protect him, Kwei takes Dek and runs away. How/when/why is up to filler.

Some ideas could be: + Kwei says he wants to take Dek for off-planet training then refuses to take Dek back to Yautja Prime. + Big-age-gap-siblings Kwei takes Dek when Dek is a child.
