Celina + Jose - Oye Mi Amor, No me Digas Que No
It’s Saturday June 10, 2017, 9:30 am, the hottest and brightest days of the Florida summer. I’m in Islamorada with my husband, in truth its a partial getaway; in my mind I’d try to trick myself into thinking so any way. However, I’m really their shooting a couple who we met at a Wedding expo. I remember it well because I was dripping sweat like I had never before, thinking to myself I am NOT going to make it. I was four months pregnant and earlier that morning I was nauseous as if stepping off a boat on extremely choppy water. Celina and her fiancee Alex (Jose) had worked out logistics of getting not one but two antique collectible cars to a private secluded club on the Key. They were doing a vintage island themed shoot. I drank my ginger tonic for my nausea and met them at the Pen Key Club. The best part of this shoot was the privacy of the club, the sound of the old engines roaring past them as they parked them and silence of the wind blowing over the ocean water as they looked into each others eyes. Suddenly as well their they were, the first little kicks my son Anthony ever gave me, probably in complaint, but nonetheless during Mommy’s shooting time. How appropriate I thought to myself. Two really special moments combined together. When I meet couples, it never ceases to amaze me that kindness is repaid through patience. I was repeatedly drinking water and of course using the restroom countless amount of times. It’s a big deal to me when it’s 95 degrees and your couple may be melting away but they are still smiling after several 10-15 minute breaks. Their patience made me want to try and push myself a little more and their photos were breath taking as can be seen in the top two photos.
Fast forward to eight months, March 31, 2018. Alex and I are at our second Spring wedding which is now Celina and Jose's special day, and Anthony is two months old. Time has flown by and I am now showing photos of my son to the Bride to be as she gets ready. Celina is a very thoughtful and kind individual. I remember back to our initial meetings prior to her signing with us how she always asked how I was feeling while pregnant, and her and Jose invited me to lunch after working out the details of their contract, since my pregnant grizzly bear appetite could not refuse. My memory was very good throughout my pregnancy, postpartum the sleepless nights have sort of blurred into a watercolor painting. I do however, remember, since our initial meeting that these two are full of life and respect one another immensely.
We stole the newlyweds for some post ceremony shots at the lovely and quaint golf course of Boca Dunes. "Oye, mi amor! No me digas que no!” played during their reception, a classic Mana feel-good song that makes you want to jump up, sing out-loud and jam with the one you love. “If you want to marry wisely, marry your equal” Spanish Proverb; and it seems to me that Celina and Jose did just that. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Lemus.
