Week 29

I can’t believe I’m on week 29!

Definitely bigger, baby likes to move more. She loves this spot under my right rib area and the area directly diagonal to it, but I have felt her all around pretty much. I still can’t catch her on video, she’s not TOO busy, so maybe she will be quiet like her mom but can speak up when she needs to like daddy.

I had a couple of days of swollen feet and hands when visiting California and they already had 100 degree heat, and no AC. So I will definitely be staying in a lot this summer now that I know how bad I can swell up. 

I’m trying to stay active, I have returned to the gym! Midwife said at least 3x a week for at least 30 minutes. 

I have had some more very weird dreams......abducting a baby, holding my baby, dreams that make me feel weird the next morning. 

We get to see her again this Friday. So excited to see how much she has grown from 10 weeks ago when we had the last sonogram. 

My California family threw her a small surprise shower and it was the sweetest thing ever, we got very cute outfits!! Loved it!

Week 23

I’m a day late. 

This week has been interesting. Besides feeling bigger, I can feel baby move higher up. She used to hang out in my lower abdomen, now she is clearly discovering that her bubble is bigger and I can feel her kicking up in my upper abdominal area. It’s pretty interesting, I’m trying to see if there is a pattern to her movements but have only noticed her move after I eat for sure, all other times it’s random. Also, reflux has started. EGH! Only after I eat too much, when I start feeling that uncomfortable sensation in my throat is when I know to stop. Snacking instead of having full meals helps too. 

I have recently started looking into essential oils and how to purify the air in our home. Allergy meds are not cutting it for me anymore. I don’t think the carpet in our house is helping. Husband wants to save more money before we get new flooring, but I’m ready....

I was able to volunteer at the Birth Roundup this last weekend, it was set up by the Texas Birth Network. Ina May Gaskin was the big speaker of the event and I was lucky to be able to get in to one of two sessions she spoke at. She didn’t really talk about her life or what she does (I guess if you know who she is you know that already).  She focused on maternal death rate statistics in Texas. Very interesting, the bottom line is that it’s way too high and mothers should be much better educated and given choices as to how to give birth. There were lots of vendors with neat baby stuff and some just for mom. I hope next year I can volunteer or visit with baby in tow! 

I have a prenatal visit this week, can’t wait to hear how much baby has grown!

Week 22

It’s Wednesday!! The beginning of week 22. Baby is just moving and grooving in there. Now it is very clear that my belly is not big due to taco Tuesday, it’s nice and round and working the pregnant look. 

I finished reading Pushed and now have moved on to The Guide to Natural Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin. This week I get to volunteer at an event she is speaking at so I’m excited to see how much more I can learn about labor and birth.

Week 21

Week 21 commences today. Fluttering is real, it is not gas! I wish I could see inside to gaze at the random movements she makes. I notice it when I sit, maybe cause I put a dent on her bubble? Sometimes after I eat too. I saw her move 3 times already, it was so surreal!! I can’t wait for her daddy to feel her move, he’s an anxious fellow. 

I had to start wearing maternity clothes this weekend. Most of the clothes I find are very blah....I want the world to know that I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom, and those clothes ain’t helping! 

Looking forward to moving along, seems like time is going by slow and I have to remind myself to enjoy it!

Week 20

Yesterday I started my 20 week mark. Now is when things are significantly shifting for my body. Now it’s obvious that a human is growing inside me. The nausea, tiredness, sleepiness, shortness of breath, + test, sneak peek telling me it’s a girl, and TWO sonograms wasn’t somehow enough for it to feel REAL! Reality has set in. 

Why?.....Well for once, I’m no longer looking like I ate a delicious Mexican meal in one sitting, or a pizza (those are my favorites right now).....no, my belly button is wide open now and my belly has  a cute roundness to it starting below my waistline. Above the waistline it still looks pudgy but whatevs. THEN, last night I tried to sleep with just one pillow under my head and I could not stop snoring!! It would wake me up!! I never snore but this pregnancy weight has really made it a thing that I do now. So I guess I’ll be going back to having 2 pillows under me. Meh. I also get super bloated if I eat too much, food has to be spaced out throughout the day. This sucks because I want to eat all the food but I can’t. Even water has to be tapered out, it’s peeing non-stop. I’m so glad warm weather is here though, I crave a lot of fruit! Watermelon is my fave. 

I haven’t felt her move, doc said my placenta is in the front so she’s kicking a pillow, basically. Watching her on the sono was cute cause she was moving SO MUCH and I felt nothing. Yesterday I felt distinct movements, I’m almost positive it was her but who knows. I have no choice but to be patient, enjoy the calmness for now. 

Right now I am reading Pushed by Jennifer Block. Definitely recommend it, it’s about a decade old and it could use an update but still it has very useful information. It gives you an idea of what the birthing trends were back then, how natural birth was frowned upon (still is in some areas), and about letting nature take it’s course. My next book will be an Ina May Gaskin book, I think it’s called The Guide to Natural Childbirth. Ina is coming to speak to an event here in my city so I hope I get to meet her and get her to sign my copy.
