An axe with a complex history. This jadeite axe was found in Lincolnshire but it originated in the foothills of Monte Viso in the Italian Alps. It was made around 4000BC and was reworked at some point, perhaps after it arrived in the UK. Around 20 examples of polished alpine axes exist in Britain so this is quite a rare item.

Dugout prehistoric boat from about 500BC. Hollowed out from a single Oak tree and preserved in mud. Found near the River Witham, this site was rich in votive items such as spears, daggers, axes and a currency bar. The boat itself is also likely to be a votive item. The boat was found alongside a causeway held by two posts. It is just over 6 metres long and has now been preserved using vacuum freeze drying. The drying process and preservation process took over 8 months to complete.

Design Set 1 for storytelling cubes for Neolithic and Mesolithic tales for Year 3 learners. Recently bought a lovely set of storytelling cubes for prehistory but they featured too many dinosaurs and so I’ve created my own. I’m hoping to put together a few sets of wooden cubes for small group storytelling in class. I’ll post the final cubes when I’ve made them! 2.1.16.
