Hot comb verses flat iron. Lets check out the pros and the cons.
Should be ceramic "because they heat up evenly preventing any hot spots that can damage your hair. They also heat very quickly which means you can start styling when you are ready, not when your iron is. The ceramic works to smooth your hair, leaving it looking shiny and healthy." If tourmaline is included in the plates it can "work to make your hair look healthier because as the iron is working, it actually closes the cuticle of the hair shaft allowing it to lay flat which makes hair look shiny and healthy instead of dry and damaged. These irons also eliminate static, so there is no more frizzy hair to deal with." If you don't know what tourmaline is, "it is an element that occurs naturally in nature that reacts to heat by becoming negatively charged. The negative ions that are produced are emitted and work to dry the hair from the inside of the shaft – out. This process actually allows the straightener to heat the hair more quickly than other irons which means that there is less overall heat applied to the hair, decreasing the chance of damage."http://www.hairfinder.com/techniques/choosing-hair-straightener.htm"
They can straighten the hair in a shorter amount of time than a pressing comb.
If using regularly can keep hair from reverting to its natural state for longer periods.
Flat irons can also be used to curl hair in some shape, form or fashion. I generally use mine only to curl my ends in, towards my neck.
They can get ones roots and ends completely straight, unlike flat irons which can not get as close to the roots as one may like. Flat irons can not go through ones ends like a pressing comb can which doesn't actually straighten out ones ends if they haven't been combed sufficiently enough.
Can not be used to curl ones hair in any shape form or fashion as combs aren't made for such uses.
With regular use hair can remain straight for longer periods but will revert more quickly than if a flat iron is used regularly.
Generally there is only one type of metal used in making the teeth which offer ones hair no benefits if used.
I've never used a pressing comb with out a curling or flat iron being used right after. Pressing combs just doesn't produce the results that a flat or curling iron can. It will have my hair straight yes ,but not to the extent that my hair is flowing, shiny and luxurious. In fact as an Au natural, hot combing my hair leaves me with a straightened out Afro to which I can see my hair's natural length with out the shrinkage.
